It is now common knowledge that Holden produced 263 L34 Toranas.

But just how many of those 263 still survive today ?

Any estimates ?

Just guessing but probably 60ish genuine cars and probably the same modified/butchered bitsa cars.

I think there would be more than that

I'm more than happy to do the grunt-work, I've already converted the A9X list from Eric Blair's book into an Excel spreadsheet, comes in very handy when determining how many of each combination where made.

And then put it on Ebay?  This has been discussed at length with a few L34 owners. There has been a lot of leg work done over the last few years, and a lot of information has been collated and digitised. But should this info be put into the public domain? The L34 is probably the last of the Aussie muscle cars that doesn't have a list of VIN numbers freely available, and my own feelings say it should stay that way, so if fake cars turn up in the future, (and let's face it, the fake tags are getting pretty bloody good) then hopefully one of the few people "in the know" will let everybody else know.

Problem is though... people buy a car while the blood is pumping... to not check things FIRST

Is it feasible to have people contribute by providing the info to an admin via PM and just have the records retained/accessed by admin.  At least this reputable body can be a source of info. Some may even pay for the privilege.  Cheers Ron

How did the XU1 disc end up everywhere? I am guessing that only a couple of people had that information to start with.

I know a lot of L34 owners would not give details of their cars. Not because they are trying to hide anything, so very far from it.

There are enough people on here on the forum who know enough about L34's to guide anyone who asks here on the forum about a cars provenance and or origniality.

If a list were to be generated by the forum, a person who wants to know would still have to come here to ask.

The people who already know who are here on the forum would answer them.

If they don't about this forum, they wont know about this list the forum would compile. Moot point.

I will tell you how the XU1 vin disc got out there, and yes you are right that there were originally a couple of people with this info. With a friend I paid a lot of money to have the GM microfiche digitally converted to a CD. I lent a copy of that CD to a person in NSW with promises it would be returned and not copied, unfortunately this did not happen and you can guess the rest I trusted someone and got burned copies started appearing on ebay.

As for other lists, the truth may be out there somewhere but you guys will never see it.
