Just going through my so called "rebuilt" UC Torana calipers before I fit them to the car.

Was wondering if anyone knows what the factory torque values for the guide pin bolts, brake hose to caliper and anchor plate to steering knuckle were.

I thought I might as well do this one by the books if I can.

Thanks,

Greg.

Torque = tight but don't strip them

Protex = about the same as everything else on the market nowadays

Just don't use their pads

Pads are Bendix ultimate

Might have to hunt down such service manual for torque values.

Do you know if there's a download for the UC service manual. No doubt the parts manual won't have that info

So looking at the VB Commodore service manual:

Unlisted - guide pin bolts

27-34Nm - brake hose to caliper

70-84Nm - anchor plate to steering knuckle

VT Commodore service manual

30-34Nm - guide pin bolts

So at this stage I think this is what I'll go with unless I can get the UC Torana values (I don't trust myself not to strip bolts without a torque wrench)

I set my torque wrench to three blows with my hammer to the corresponding ring spanner 👍

I suppose I could set it to stun.

By the looks of some of the fasteners that have come of this car someone set their torque wrench to full blast

The Gregorys UC Service Manual and the Gregorys LH/LX Service manual only list torque settings for the caliper mounting bolts.

UC is 105 Nm front caliper and 71 Nm rear caliper.

That's a bit higher than for the VB Commodore which has a very similar caliper. Maybe the commodores a bit weaker in the mounting hole.

UC Toranas got 2 styles of calipers. They started out with the PBR 'part alloy' (Dattoman's favourite). During 1979 they changed over to the Girlock 'Collette' type caliper similar to Commodore.

These will obviously have different torque figures for the 'guide pin'.

It also depends on which bolts they are referring to. There will be quite a difference between the guide pin figure between the different caliber types, however the mount bolts (to the stub axle) should all be similar for Torana. The Commodore mount to the strut will differ as it i a larger (metric) bolt.

I have the Commodore style calipers so should probably go with the 105Nm value then for anchor plate bolts.

As for guide pins, I think the VT Commodore ones are a little bigger if I remember rightly so their value might not be applicable to the Girlock ones
