Good morning guys,

My UC project i am doing with my son has taken a change in direction , we have decided to replace the opel 1900 engine with a 202.

I have searched high and low for these answers but cant seem to find the information i am after so sorry if this has been coverd before.

The car currently has all factory sunbird gear in it Opel 1900 engine with MC6 4 speed, (engine crane is hooked onto engine waiting for my 11 year old son to be present when i remove it ) .

As the 6 cylinder conversion is only going to be for a few years I am trying to do this efficiently and somewhat quickly so as to keep my son interested in the project.

I plan on utilizing the transmission , brakes and diff already fitted to the car as they all appear to be in VGC and I would like to keep it manual until we do a v8 swap.

question 1)  is there a difference between the mc6 used with 6 and 4 cylinders?

question 2)  what bellhousing do I need for a 202 (most likely red) ?

question 3)  does anyone have a suitable bellhousing for sale?

question 4) I assume that I need to find a 6 cylinder manual tail shaft from a mc6 UC ?

question 5) Will the current clutch cable setup work

thanks very much any advice is greatly appreciated

My 2c & it's been a long time so please forgive my clouded brain.

For what you will spend trying to get that horrible box to fit behind the 6, you will be better off throwing in a aussie 4-slot. You might even pick up a VH-VK 5-slot cheap.
Use the Commodore cable bellhousing & your pedal /cable will be fine. From memory i had to make up a 10mm spacer for the cable where it goes through the firewall.

As you probably already know , the engine mounts on the K-frame will need to be cut off & 6/V8 mounts welded on.

The engine bay wiring will need to be lengthened to reach the 6cyl senders.

The Opel exhaust is also on the wrong side so it's a good time to bolt a set of extractors on & mate them to the existing exhaust .

Any 6cyl Torana tailshart will do the job. I've read that the auto is the same as manual but I can't confirm .

Trimatic and Aussie box are the same length but the borg Warner 5spds are longer. Just get your stock shaft cut shut and balanced.

I've used the starfire version behind a warm 202 before without issue (straight bolt-on), not sure about the opel bellhousing though...
