I have one of these. It works with double valve springs but can be fiddly, needs to be in the right spot to work. It is slow compared to other designs. But I got the job done.

The basic old style work great;

I have an older style one but it can whip out valve springs and valves in no time

I already had a similar valve spring compressor to that supercheap one, the last time I tried it I couldn't get the lever to compress so gave up thinking it was the wrong type, so today I used a 300mm pipe on the end of it for some leverage and it worked easily
Thanks

Because the collets are wedge shaped, they jam in. Put a bit of tension on it then give the valve cap a hit with a soft faced hammer. You only need 3 hands.

Seems to work easier using a socket over the valve spring retainer cap

I also made one many moons ago using a VC commodore front bumper iron.

Build your own using an old C Clamp.

I made a very simple valve spring compresser at home DIY thats working great for me recently. Cost less than $25 in parts from bunnings. Pretty much just a post anchor and 15mm galvanised plumbing piping with a 'T' piece and some bolts to tie it together. The two brackets bolted through the piping that push down on the valve could be improved on though, just by using something thicker and stronger. Also maybe turning the post anchor around the other way would put less stress on the bolts holding it to the wood? But this works fine for me
