Hi all

I will probably replace the 308 with an LS engine of some description when the time comes.
Inevitably this requires the rest of the drive train to cop a beef up - I just can’t see the Aussie 4 speed handling it.
It is a given a nine in her goes in the rear and there are plenty of choices there.
LS1,2,3 - plenty of choices there as well.

Where I am struggling here is I want a manual transmission that doesn’t require surgery tot he transmission tunnel - but given the engine will likely punch out 600+hp (likely to cop a turbo or two at some point because I have no self control what so ever) I can’t just slot in a stocko.

Extensive reading - even through the pages of this forum - has led to be being more confused than when i started - at the beginning i thought the T-56 magnum was out because it requires too much surgery, with the Tremec TKO-600 being the obvious choice - but I then read on here that they fail, I then read on here that a Muncie M22 would be the go, but I also can’t find any for sale etc (even these guys http://www.tbtrans.c...cie_4_speed.htm just seem to have rebuild parts etc).

I would love to hear recommendations and advice here - particularly what woudl need to happen with the crossmember etc.

A four speed (Muncie, maybe Super T10) is really your only option if you refuse to cut the tunnel and want decent driveline angles. But even then you'll need custom linkages and shifter mounting (and probably still need to tweak the hole in the tunnel for the shifter anyway). There are a couple of suppliers in the US making all-new Muncies, this is one:

If it were me I'd just make peace with cutting the tunnel and do a nice job of it, then the T56-based option becomes the obvious choice.
