I am looking for a source for the flange plates. Unobtanium according to the guys at well hung exhausts Lonsdale.
The stud spacing appears to be 2 3/4”, and engine pipe 1 3/4”, which seems close to factory 186. I have tried searching on here. Can anyone advise please?

The XU1 flanges are the same as single exhaust EH/HD 149/179, which is smaller than stock 186. Obviously they are also the same as 179/186 X2, 161S, 173S & 186S.

Thanks doc terry, I thought so as I had measured a 149 exhaust manifold stud spacing at 71mm. I since disposed of the manifold so I couldn’t confirm. I actually have a 186s and an 186x2 set to go in my FB ute. If all else fails I will find two used 149 units.
Interesting the guy at the exhaust shop didn’t know this as he had a Holden wrecking yard for ten years.
Cheers

As far as the exhaust industry is concerned... pressed metal flange plates are a thing of the past

Now its 10mm laser cut flat flanges

Still some pressed ones about though... just takes some looking

Thanks datto and that’s what I’ve seen on line. They could be made to work with a bit of chamfering. Finding the right dimensions would be the hard part. I’m in no big hurry and something will turn up. Thanks to LC870 and Dr Terry I should be sorted.

Haven’t heard anything from you LC870. Do you still have flanges?

Looking at the FX to HR MPC part numbers for FX to HD and HR X2 and S exhaust packing gasket are the same, indicating same 1 3/4” engine pipe. There is no listing for HR X2 and S flange, but the listing for EH HD indicates 1 or two pieces. I take this to mean two flanges for the HD X2.5b2d1d75bcf30da8783aeb83426a5913.jpg
This confirms Dr Terry’s information, not that I doubted it. Just that my exhaust shop contact did.

I also see Brad Merrick has enlarged the pipe hole from stock on his repro XU1 systems. He doesn’t seem to have a listing just for the flanges though.

This information may help others I hope. Meanwhile I’m still hunting.
Cheers

The reason that they don't list the flanges separately for the HR X2 & 186S engines is that the engine pipe is a 'Y' pipe & the flanges can't be removed. The same goes for the later GTR & XU1 engines.

The HD X2 had 2 separate engine pipes going to a muffler with 2 inlets.

Just find some old Holden exhausts and cut the pressed flanges off

Or better yet... get your sizes and Mr China will make you 100 and you can sell some off for a profit

https://www.liangfei...e/56439360.html

If I was still working at the exhaust place I'd grab you a few... but I don't have access to that warehouse anymore... and no-one there I know who's bright enough to find them

Thanks for that link datto. They look a bit thin gauge. The factory ones are even a bit thin at 2mm. Like you say I’ll make the trip to old duds. He must have 100 EH and HDs.

Found these
https://sonicinjecti...der-plates-xu1/
Sonic injection flanges to suit red six cast headers $40 a pair
Cut from sheet as per current process rather than pressed like original
Should work better as the originals bend

There's a waterjetting cutter in Melbourne that does flanges etc, MRC Waterjetting.  Maybe someone in SA can do it, just need to give them the dimensions.  Cheers Ron

Paul,
Thanks for the offer.
10mm holes on 71.5mm centres.
Centre hole 49mm.

I have added 1mm to the standard hole size (48mm) per Brad Merrick’s suggestion for improved sealing and pipe life.

Brad states the stud centres are 72.5mm +/-0.5mm, but the two sets I have are 71.0mm.

Cheers
Clay

Ordered a set from Luke, thanks.

Then I visited my mate with 5000 cars in the back yard and scrounged two from EH engine pipes. He socked me $5 for the pair. Mates rates I suppose.bc2056704d3d0da35b36c4d79b224a3a.jpg

Sonic flanges came today from Barmera. Good turn around. Cut from flat sheet so may not suit purists. I'll be happy if the do the job. They're going in an FB after all.87c484d1f542c30a6bf7eed09ed7422d.jpg
