Hi Team, does anyone know the tricks to pulling apart a LX washer motor without breaking important stuff.

Mine has an internal leak and as an unashamed rivet counter l want to fix the seal in this original one rather than replacing it,

but after drilling out the rivets (l counted 2  :P) of the pump body to motor it appears l now to need some help proceeding.

Thanks Stuart.

I rebuilt mine. Took a while to find a suitable seal and I couldnt for the life of me remember where I got it from. Might be something noted down in my build thread...?

Some detail I found from a search.

The ID where the seal fits into is 10.35mm (13/32) and the OD of the motor shaft is 3.1mm (1/8).

This is the crazy seal that I had issues replacing as my motor was leaking.

I have a feeling I bought a generic washer motor and stripped it down and used a seal from it. I just cant recall exactly. But mine works and dosnt leak.

Thanks Brad that's what i'm after. I just went through your build again but not much

detail on pulling the pump apart. Does the impeller just "pull" off with some force?

By the way l had forgotten how much of your car was that shitty maroon colour  :D

I'm interested to know the progress and fix when you get there.

I recently put vinegar on mine to tidy the rust and dirt off after many years of sitting there and non use but it did work and didn't leak.

That resulted in it looking more shiny but sprung a leak.

I've fitted a spare one i had but also in the meantime looking to fix the original.

Is your motor the same as mine. Surprising I can’t find any pics of mine apart. I know it challenged me a bit to get it right and stop leaking. So I might have been too annoyed to take pics. I did read somewhere that mine had a broken impeller. I actually think I bought 2 motors and made 1 good one. Pretty sure I’ve still got the other one somewhere.

Yeah that maroon..... don’t remind me....!!

Okay for anyone interested in fixing up these little suckers

they do just pull apart very easily once you know how.

(a lot easier than me learning how to put the bloody photos up)

Once secured in a vice the J bend water inlet can be wriggled out of

the body exposing the impeller and after drilling out the rivets a centre

punch will knock the motor free.

In the back of the body will be the rubber seal secured by a brass retainer.

These just knock out. (Brad has kindly put up great pictures and dimensions

of the seal that is the trouble-maker for leaks.)

I went with another tack with this one, by coating the surface of the motor shaft

to increase it's thickness with some KBS paint (known for it's durability and

self leveling) it closed up the seal. I will try and find a replacement seal for another

pump l have and will let everyone know if l do.

Bit of Vas here and there and a couple of new rivets (no thanks to rodomo) and

and she just all pushes back together.
