I'm chasing a pair of unroadworthy 245/50/14 tyres to roll my LX four door project around on... willing to pay something.

It's a long term project so I don't want to buy new ones now, but would like the right size tyres that I plan to run on the 14x8 front wheels just so that I can get clearances, ride height, offset, stance etc sorted out now before committing to new tyres when the time comes.

I'm located in Shellharbour, NSW but am willing to travel to Sydney to pickup.  Further away might also work somehow?

If you have a pair of dead tyres lying around or will have some coming up soon, please keep me in mind.

Cheers

Jason

I'm too far west to send you some but most tyre shops would give you a couple of baldy's, otherwise it costs them money to get rid of their old tyres. We even put free ads up on gumtree etc sometimes to get rid of old tyres...

My local tyre service wont sell old tyres, he reckons its illegal to do so.

But he is a bit of a tosser.

Actually he is a huge tosser.

I wanted a couple for my project as well.

I only wanted normal size, but he outright refused me.

He wont get any of my other business from now on either.

Managed to get a couple of rims and tyres for free.

Cheers

Rob

My local tyre guy wont fit up unroadworthy tyres either.  I bought one of those wheelrite tools to check my clearances.  Seemed to work. Cheers Ron

Hi guys, it's Uncle Chop Chop here.

We don't fit or repair un-roadworthy tyres either. It isn't about selling you a $600 tyre instead of getting $35 for a puncture repair. It's about safety and legalities. If we repair or fit an unroadworthy tyre, it would make any vehicle it was fitted to unroadworthy. And that is against the law for us. Insurance and the VACC as well as Vic Roads would have a field day.

There is a loophole we can jump through to get around this, but I won't be saying anything publicly.

If the rim is not attached to a car then it may well be going on a speedway racer, farm hack, or a long term Torana project. There is no reason to refuse a fit up.

It is the same with exhaust shops. If a pipe is brought in, they can remove the catalytic converter, as long as they don't fit it back onto the car.

^Ditto - we wouldn't fit unroadworthy tyres to a car and let them drive off, but if someone wants them for a bush hack or to push their project in and out the shed they can have them...

Hi guys, Shiney is absolutely spot on. We have no idea what any loose wheel and tyre might be fitted to. And that's why we don't do it.
