Unsure what brake setup/Stud pattern to go with. (Can your knowledge base help me out)

Car will have Uncut guards/No Flares. What offset/rim & tyre size will be best ???

Getting new IFS & power steer option from either:

Very open question.
Is it a street car? What do you plan on doing with it?
Is there a rim dia you would prefer?

I have a rod shop front end for my HK GTS. The standard brakes are XF Falcon rotors with VP Commodore calipers and most wheels 14” and up will fit.
Mine has the upgrade brakes which are AUII on Falcon.

I have original Pontiac 15x6 RallyeII rims that just clear the calipers. They are 3 7/8” backspace. I bought some wheel Vintiques 15x6 Chevelle SS rims with 4” backspace and they hit the calipers, not offset related but they are drop hoops with 14” centres by the looks. I doubt you’d fit alloy 15”, but the steel 15” hoops clear easily, it is the back of the centre where it welds to the hoop that comes close.

With the VP calipers you can probably use the Torana master, but with the AUII ones you need a stepped bore, I’m just using a VT one with an adapter so it bolts straight to the HK booster. Torana will be the same, I’d just use a HK-HG booster though with appropriate Torana rear rod.

I’m using HQ-WB rear drums, the VT cylinder has an inbuilt prop valve which hopefully will work, otherwise I’ll fit an in-line one.

16 or 17” will fit with the AUII to FX brakes. Steel 15” of the right type fits too. Anything that fits AUII-FX should fit but would be Ford stud pattern. You may not need the bigger brakes on a Torana though, especially if you are putting rear discs on, the XF brakes may be fine. What turned me off was the piston size on the VP calipers. My HK GTS will weigh about 1400kg, so a little heavier than an LH-LX but as I’m running HQ-WB rear drums I figured a little extra front brakes will help.

If you buy a Rodtech one pay the extra for stainless. I got the steel one, still in rust prep, will paint once all sorted. Will be hard to paint too, lots of nooks and crannies.

And communicate with Rod about track if you are going that way. The HK front end with the XF rotors is about 25mm narrower than stock. With the AUII rotors it is a bit wider, maybe 15mm or so. I spent hours working out track, and diff width sorting it out so the wheels fitted and stayed within legal track.

The other thing that sucks is all of these front ends lower your car by about 20mm. I don’t like lowered cars and wanted it to fit original but that is how it is. Max height of the suspension is 20mm dropped. Hopefully it isn’t too noticeable.

Thoughts of the Wilwood calipers & rotors from CRS on the IFS?

ATM, leaning towards the 320mm rotors/4 piston calipers.

Talk to your Engineer first. Mine told me he wouldn’t Engineer most Wilwood stuff. I saw a HR CRS setup and wasn’t hugely fond of how it looked. See if you can actually see them all first.

I don't see a Torana IFS option from either Rodtech or United Speed Shop.

United speed shop do make Tubular control arms that look good however I don't think the springs are suitable. The springs look to be around 350 lb/in. The standard V8 Torana springs are 760 lb/in. The spring position appears to be standard so they would need to be at least 600 lb/in. I would also be interested to see how much travel they have as there is not much room in the spring tower for the coilover setup they are using.

You will probably find the same problem with the springs in the RodShop IFS.

You’re right, Rodtech doesn’t list an LH-LX. I thought they did. Curleys may.

I think you will find 17" will have problems hitting the front guard on turning, I am running 17 X 7 fronts with Hoppers kit and had to have the guard cut and spread as I didn't want to go flared. Back is 17 X 8 with a shortened 9" and had to have the guards and inner seam rolled. Cheers Ron

United do do the full IFS. They Quoted me same price as others listed- $8990 extra 1900 for power steer.

Spring suitability sounds like an issue. Ill chase them up on this.

Cheers - ls2
