I went and had a look at a car show in Cervantes on the weekend. For those who don't know, Cervantes is a small fishing town a couple of hours north of Perth with only a few hundred permanent residents. They put on a really good day with tractor drags up the main street, sideshows and market stalls for the wives and kids, a motocross jump show, and a band later on.

This dual cab XB was something different.

I thought the days of finding an old Torana for a burnout car would be over.

I am not actually sure which one I would pick these days.

It was a tidy Torana though, and at chassis number ALH 000590 a very early one too.

An original Phase 3 with an original set of Dunlop SPs. I can't remember what colour it was but it was one of six. It was also factory optioned with a 3.9 Detroit Locker. A super nice car.

Not my cup of tea, but the detail in the little ghost graphics in the paint was cool.

I think this may be a forum members car.

This one was built for the show scene years ago. It looks like it spends a fair bit of time on the road these days.

And who says that there aren't any barn finds left.  The owner of this L34 bought it when he was 16. (Deck hands up there were making ridiculous money in the 80s and 90s) Probably lucky for him that it blew a head gasket and it sat in his shed for the next 20 years.

He has since had the motor rebuilt, but still hasn't re-licenced it with family commitments and so on. It still has its original master cylinder, dizzy, spare wheel, nose cone, and un cut dash. I didn't know that the owner was on the committee for the event and busy all day so I ended up hanging around close to this car for three hours before finding out who owned it, and then tracking him down after the day was over to have a chat to him about it. This is only the second Torana I have seen in recent years with the natural finish still on the fuel tank.

We actually didn't head down (from Jurien Bay) until about 1.pm, and by then there were already quite a few nice cars heading back up towards Geraldton, but I don't know if they were entrants or not. Jurien is the next town up, and it has the biggest collection of Vincent motorcycles in the world under a blokes house, and another fellow I know up there has a Gullwing Mercedes in the shed.  This DB6 Vantage was sold from there not long ago too.

Cray fishermen around that area Brad. The miners are further north. The fellas catching the crays used to make a good dollar, but nowadays with the quota system and each pot costing $110,000 you have to go big or get out.
