Original 298mm disks? Smallest wheels om a ba falcon where 16". With the smaller disk size there is good clearance, id say most 15" wheels would fit.

20191227-102903.jpg

Even at 286mm thats still a reasonable size disk for the weight of the car. huge upgrade over original. I chose QFM A1RM pads which are rated 0-800c ive used them before and they work well enough on the street and good for a couple of hard laps at the track. My nissan is probably a smidge lighter with 280mm disks and unknown pads. Thats never came close to experiencing fade.

Looking good.

Sorry, what brake kit is that? Is that UPC's kit with their own hubs? What pattern are you using?

Thats a very good question. I had not taken any notice of that before.

Its kind of a cobbled together kit. It was ment for a hq-hz. But i found on this forum you could bolt the hq brakes onto torana knuckles, only real modification is turning down the disks to a smaller diameter. So i figured i could do the same with a aftermarket kit. I found the hubs and adaptors on ebay, i dont believe they are the UPC kit. I milled down the disks and redrilled them also. We are using chev/HQ pattern on this car.

Cool. That's actually a perfectly good idea I think - as long as it clears what i needs to around the upper arm & steering system.

I believe that your car has at some point been fitted with a master directly to the firewall - like what I have done with my car. Only the original booster holes were not welded up.

Asked the previous owner and he said he believes they are factory. A quick google search shows quite a lot of firewalls having 6 holes at the brake booster. Our car hadnt been messed with too much so im lead to believe they are factory on the LH. Maybe not all LH.

Was the LH available as a drum brake car? This may explain the other 2 holes.

So different booster? Or non assisted?

These where also sold in a heap of different markets aswell. Imagine that, a time when we actually made and exported cars....

I've seen Toranas with stocko masters bolted straight to the firewall, but not sure if that's a factory drum brake car format or not.

Also, you would still see the other four regular brake booster bolts, so that doesn't sound like a factory configuration.

Underside has now been finished. Was primed, stone guarded in some areas and painted. The paint was surposed to be a matt finish but even with putting it on dry it has come up fairly glossy. We dont intend on looking at the underside (unless i flip it haha) so in the grand scheme of things it doesnt matter that much.

Paint sheen looks like it should as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't keep putting it on dry though, stir it really well, let it sit for 5 minutes then shoot it, I presume it's 2 pack ? Main thing is to thoroughly stir the colour every time, for at least 5 minutes to keep the consistency.

Stirring is extra important if flattenerhas been added to the paint, otherwise it settles to the bottom and doesn’t end up on the car.

Aaron,

why are there six hole for the booster?

I have been trying to track down the date for the change from six hole to four. Brads 5000 is October '75 and his has the six, while LS1 Taxi's 76 LX doesn't, but I don't know what month his car is. It might have been at the LX model changeover.

In a HQ-HJ when they were all wheel drum without a booster they only has the two holes with the nuts welded behind. You had to drill the holes for a booster if you wanted to add one. I would have thought Torana would have been the same, that is if it had all wheel drums without a booster it only had the captive nuts. But if it had boosted drums or front discs the 4 extra holes were drilled.

HJ became standard with front discs roughly in line with LX release, so theoretically volume production LX should only have 4 holes, but LX prior to volume production may have 6 holes if fitted with a booster?

While ever there is a chance that non booster was a option they would have continued with the 6 holes. When they desided to discontinue the 6 hole there would have been a surplus of several thousand firewall stamped panels. With production its cheaper to make 1 part that will fit all models rather then 2 separate parts which means doubling up on stock lines and also changing the stamping. A good example of this is when most vehicles will have factory foglights, usually only one front end loom will be made with wiring provisions for foglamps.
