Hi all.  I was just having a read on Heath's latest progress and it made me take a closer look at my headlight situation.  I have a pair Like Heath's as per the photo and besides having to open up the bucket to fit the new lamp, because the park globe is lower than original, I think you would have to cut a piece out of the radiator support panel to make it fit. I'm wondering if that is what others have done or is there an alternative as I don't want to cut the panel.  Thanks in advance.  Cheers Ron

The Hella H4 conversion fit without cutting the radiator support panel as the park light is mounted high enought to clear. The headlight bucket needs a small amount cut out around the park light globe.

Pictures here.

The Narva H4 conversion have the park light mounted too low to clear.

Yours look to have the park light in a similar position as the Hella so they may be ok.

Hi ls2lxhatch.  The ones I have would need the rad support cut to fit the park light unless I was happy for them pointing upwards lol.  I did have a quick read of that thread before but wasn't entirely sure about the Hella 1058 given devojr62's question about should there be a left and right globe but there weren't any responses.  I understand I need to do some work with the bucket, which is fine but I don't want to touch the support.  Are you or anyone else who have these, able to post a pic front and back so I can get a better idea before I commit to buying another set of globes.  Cheers Ron

The Hella H4 in my picture were bought in Australia. The Australian part number for a Hella 178mm H4 with park lamp is 1058.

You will find it on page 112 of the Hella Australia 2019-2020 catalogue

https://www.hella.co...19_20_v0219.pdf

There was confusion regarding the Hella H4 posted by LS1 Hatch as they were for US/European market.

If the low beam is asymmetrical then in the US the low beam should point to the right.

if the low beam is asymmetrical then in Australia the low beam should point to the left.

It is assumed that it is the bulb that dictates which way the asymmetrical low beam points. Therefore, there would be a LHD and a RHD version of the H4 high/low beam bulb.

I believe that the bulb is the same for both RHD & LHD. It is the lens which differs for the low beam dipping angle.

It is certainly as Dr Terry said above.

The lense does the intelligent stuff. The bulb is just a light source in the middle of it.

Thanks gents.  I have just ordered a pair.  There is a vast difference in pricing between the larger suppliers Repco/Bursons (around $130 each) and the smaller suppliers (around $65 each).  I'm advised by Hella that the park globe is HL124 FWIW.  Cheers Ron

And you thought you could get rid of me that easily lol.  Next question.  Got the globes, cut out one bucket at present but new globe sits about 6mm higher in the bucket due to the locating lugs on the back of the globe being higher than the originals.  This also means the surround can't be screwed down completely.  Is this likely to be an issue when it comes time to fitting the nose cone as I'm not sure how much tolerances there are and don't have anything to compare. Alternatively do I need to trim some of the bucket where they locate or could I carefully cut off some of the lug on the globe (which I could stuff up very quickly). Heres the pics with original on left and Hella on right. Cheers Ron

The stainless rings hold the lamp in the bucket .

I didn't have to trim or modify anything .

Hi Col.  Here is another pic.  The first step of the clip fits in the recess in the bucket but the second step is too wide for the recess.  This is the bit that's stopping it from seating properly. That's why I was wondering it you had to do anything to widen the bucket recess.  Maybe the lamps have changed designs in this area?  Cheers Ron

Locate the first step into the bucket & see if the retainer ring screws on.

There is plenty of room for adjustment behind the nosecone.

Thanks Col. I can screw the retainer ring on but not fully home.  I'm happy with how it looks but just wasn't sure if there was going to be any issues with the nose cone or the outside surround piece.  Cheers and thanks Ron

Mine sat 1 or 2 mm higher.

I would either modify the recess in the bucket so the headlight sits flush or modify the locators on the headlight.

I have seen the clip bent with pointy nose pliers to make them lower. Cutting them off would be simpler. They are only there for the assembly line.

I put them together yesterday so will run with them at present and see how they fit when I get to the nose cone, which won't be for a while.  For anyone interested here is a couple of pics.  You only need to grind out the lower section to fit the lamp.  You will notice I ground a bit off the top but that was a slip of the grinder lol.  Cheers Ron

Hi Ron, are you considering to run the h4 led bulb ? Much better lighting for a torana, plug & play wiring harness comes with them, really easy to fit. Narva part number is 18004 i think. The narva units are considered non dazzling, so they technically should be legal to fit. I have them in my clubsport, although it has a projector lens, way better light. Gary.

Hi Gary.  To be honest I hadn't really thought about it but thanks for the heads up.  I need to do some research. Cheers Ron

It looks like Hella have changed the design. The park lamp is diffent, that might also explain the difference in the headlight locator heights.
