Hi fellas,

I picked up a new LJ Coupe last week and it's been a while since I have played with a 186 so excuse the newly questions.

It has the GTR dash in it but the oil pressure gauge isn't working.

I know the pressure sender is just above the oil pump, buI had a look and found the sensor below and followed the cable and it ends up under the dash not connected to anything. Is it temp sensor?

The temp gauge works and I'm sure this is the correct sensor.

They are both temp sensors as they run through the coolant passages.

Not sure if the GTR dash has temp idiot light but if so two separate temp senders required. Could the dead end one be an old analogue sender that has been abandoned when the GTR dash with (presuming here) electric gauge was installed?

Thanks fellas.

I thought that would be the case.

I'll just remove the cable and leave the sensor in there.

Now to get the oil pressure gauge working.

It shouldn't be too hard as there is currently no cable coming off the sensor.

Need to be sure that the oil sender is correct for the GTR guage and not just a standard one for an idiot light.

Look for a dark blue wire that's not connected to anything, somewhere near the dissy.

Below are a couple of photos.

Here's my oil pressure sender

And this is the gauge I'll fit into the cluster until I can find a genuine one

Would this diagram be the same for that gauge?

That sender is for the idiot light only, you will need to change it. I have no idea though if the sender we all use for our factory oil pressure gauges will work accurately with that gauge tho.

I have used VDO gauge with a GTR sender. Seemed to be OK.

You need a brass union that screws in to the sender hole and takes both senders. Any speed shop would have had them 30 years ago.
