Hi,

I thought I'd start a new thread for my new Coupe that I picked up last week and drove back to Sydney from Hobart  :D

It's an LC that has been mocked up as an LJ.

The paint is new and it just needs a bit of a tidy up in the interior with new door cards and retiming the seats.

I drove it back over two days and fell in love with it on the way.

Bloody stoked with her.

I haven't posted for a while so I thought I'd share some updates.

I've done a few things to the car since I bought it.

I added a Bocam rocker cover and fitted a catch can

ET8zK9e.jpg

I also fitted a new VDO oil pressure gauge and sender as the one in it didn't work (I'm keeping an eye out for a genuine gauge)

O5Z4UW2.jpg

I took my daughter and her best friend to the Year 6 Formal in the Tory

whhNaZB.jpg

I have also joined the Sydney Torana Club and attended a few events

Finally I picked up some 3.55 diff gears so I can swap out the 3.08 to make it a bit more fun to drive. I'll fit them next weekend when the gasket kit arrives.

What a sweet looking car.

Sits well etc... really not much you need to do. Just make it drive as well as possible.

Might need to throw a decent slippery in that 3.55 gearset while you've got it apart.

Thanks mate.

The seats are.buggered but I’ll get them sorted out soon then she’s a great little car.

I want to fit these gears to try and if I like them I’ll try and get a truetrac LSD the same ratio to fit

Don't forget to change the speedometer driven gear in the gearbox to suit.

If you do a fair bit of highway/motorway cruising the engine will be revving its ring off with a 3.55:1 diff.

3.36:1 would be my choice.

Can you still buy the speedo gears new?

Also below is what I’ve worked the RPM would be at 100k’s with my 205/60/13 tyres

3.08 would be 2700rpm (and it is with the current centre)

3.36 would be 3100rpm

3.55 would be 3300rpm

I don’t think 3300rpm is too bad and it doesn’t do a heap of highway driving.

Just a tip on fitting the centre back I..............  throw the gasket in the bin, use a good quality sealant if you want to avoid the leaks. ( tip given to me by one of H Firths lads)

Use the gasket & a smidgen of 3 bond each side. The gasket is there for a reason.

Obviously you’ll have to change to shortbottom bolt and stud. Be sure and use brass washers on these or it is guaranteed to leak.

The axles will hope your rear tyres aren’t too sticky.

Thanks fellas.

Can anyone tell me the length and thread size of the two short bolts on a banjo diff when changing from a long bolt 3.08 casing to a short bolt 3.55 casing?

I want to source them before I do the swap.

So I’ve fitted the 3.55’s and the centre is good with no whine or excess backlash etc

It’s made the car feel better and works well with my big cam.

I can deal with the higher highway rpm as it’s not that bad. I just might need earplugs due to my exhaust
