Hey peeps. Need a favour.

Is there anyone up near Burrum Heads who could check out a car for me this weekend? It is a HZ Premier with an injected 5.0l engine that has just been restored. I am really keen on it and would be prepared to buy it if a forum member vouched for the excellent condition of the car.

Let me know as soon as possible if you can help out.

Cheers,
Gerry

Bit too far for me unfortunately. Hopefully there's a member in Hervey Bay available.

Jump in a plane to Brisbane, grab a hire car and drive. Far better than relying upon someone else’s judgement. I know these cars backwards but I’d be reluctant to look at it if close to me simply as my idea of good might be junk to someone else. Plus you’ll have to be wary of a QLD Engineered car and if the Engineer has Certification in your State. HZ has the be Engineered with an EFI 5litre. Just went through this, almost bought a stretched dual cab 100 Series with supercharger from Vic, Engineer wasn’t recognised in NSW so almost impossible to re-Engineer.

Especially if it has just been restored, a lot can be hidden behind paint.

Another alternative if that one falls through:
https://www.gumtree....6500/1232664891

And don’t do what Col says and fly Jetstar. Never again for me. Cancel the f&$@ck&$g flight to Melbourne. Wait until I turn up at the airport at 6am after having just driven into the $50 a day undercover parking to tell me? Put me on a f$&ck$&g bus to Sydney? Get st$&ffed Jetstar. Rang up Virgin, booked with them and turned up in Melbourne before the Bus to Sydney flight even left Sydney.

lol...cancellations, buses, no notification...that's just normal for them.

Not to mention T4 at Tullamarine which must rent out at $3.56 a week, it's so far away , by the time you walk there, you may as well walk home.

But seriously, I have jumped on a plane to look at cars a few times, sure it's a waste of $ if you dont buy...but a cheap day out if you save yourself from a dud.

Worth a thought?

Agree. D!ckheads even wouldn’t refund the flight as they said there is one for you in Sydney! I said there is no point, I’ll miss the meeting by the time you herd all the cats into the bus, it stops twice on the way to Sydney for people to go to Macca’s, then you herd them all back again and then you delay that damn flight too! They knew by 6am to have a bus there, so all they had to do was text each passenger. I would have immediately booked on the morning flight to another city (like Brisbane) and then changed to a Melbourne flight.

100% agree with Col though, jump on a plane and look. Just not Jetstar wankers.

Fly in, hire this and have a nice lunch somewhere while you are at it. Make it a mini holiday and feel your stress fade away into the sunny coast weather.  Then drive the Premier home.

Thanks lads but got someone who has a panel beater mate going with them to check the car out. It was a bare metaled car so should be ok. And have spoken with the lads here in ACT about the injected 5.0L and T700 and they said it should be ok and not need engineering.

I doubt it but I hope so for your sake. In a HQ-HJ no need if you run a red block but if you use an EFI engine they normally need Engineering to ensure cars are in place etc.

You are lucky in ACT then. In NSW to fit an injected 5L into early stuff it has the be Engineered. Way out for pre ADR27A is to use an early block, doesn’t work for HX-WB though.

Which is ridiculous considering they are the same motor.  Probably the only time I would codone re-stamping a block.

Same as a VL engine into a HQ, legally you need cats and all other VL pollution equipment, meaning Engineers Report. In NSW anyway. Or if you put an ‘87 XF engine into an ‘85 XF, same deal.

Yes ACT uses common sense and says it is the same family engine and only fitted with injection. They are of the opinion that why should someone pay an engineer for something so simple. If it had a 9 inch diff and different brakes, then yes you would need one. But this car has everything stock bar the engine and trans.

Anyway, I have decided to opt out of buying it as it has non matching chassis and compliance (as alot of them do) but could cause me headaches in future.

Thanks for all the comment though folks :-)

I think you're reading too much into the "numbers" thing.

H Series aren't like Toranas where the tag matches the chassis number

Every Holden (or Statesman) I’ve ever seen with an ADR tag (Australian delivery 1/70 until the end of WB) has the chassis number on the ADR tag. Torana copies this exactly.

You are quite wrong there. The chassis number will always match the compliance tag number (as stated above from 1972). In this case it didn't. So at some stage the front sub-frame has been replaced.

If my memory is correct???? HQ - HZ chassis numbers were stamped into the rails which could be bolted in from car to car? Also the tags were pop rivetted on?

Were earlier cars with the bolt on subframes the same? Stretching my memory here?

Some had the chassis number on the rails, lots (HD-HG) had it in the firewall. The PSN tag was screwed on prior to HK the body tag was held by those big pre-HJ push in rivets. HK-HG VIN plate uses the big push in rivets too.
