The stuff on my ute is very tough, and very thick. Probably close to an 8th of an inch. ~ The panel beater who did the job isn't at work today so I can't help with a brand name until Monday.

Sounds like it may be a product called "LizardSkin"? (See: https://lizardskin.com/ )

I haven't used it myself but everyone seems to rave about it.

yer but thats like saying ford to me. They are always broken down and have problems galore in the body. I love my Hilux and sware by them, I have a hilux 4L v6 petrol and recomend them to eveyone.

Understand that, but most wreckers that ever wrecked a Patrol still have every transfer and diff as they don’t break. Yes the 4cyl diesel in GU is junk, but so is a Hilux 2.8. The 4.8 Patrol transfer and diffs are a far better match for an LS3 or LSA than any other commonly available stuff around here in Australia.
I too have a V6 Hilux, had it since new. It has about 180kW and 600Nm at the rear wheels. Now has 150,000km on it, only things that ever gave me problems was the stock suspension (stuffed by 25,000km), fried front rotors (due to tyre diameter increase from 255/70/15 to 265/65/17) and the 4-5 clutch pack starting to go in the A750F auto. The auto issue is common in supercharged V6 Hilux/Landcruiser and Supercharged 100 Series V8 Landcruiser, that clutch pack not up to the torque. My original box is being overhauled and beefed up at the moment. It is a good car but tipping the scales at about 2200kg it needs more go in it which you can get out of them but at the expense of reliability. This only has 6.5psi boost, wouldn’t want to give it more, plus the auto won’t like much more into it. Hence why I’m looking towards something with more grunt!

I’ll shut up now, I want to hear more about the “Toradventra”. I’m a big fan of such projects.

Get rid of the patrol engine and body and what’s left is the good bits. Sounds like a viable project.

I do like LX8. You’ll even get a badge off an Adventra for it too.

The gaurds are the same but had 10 times more shit on them. I think they had been every color of the rainbow
Biggest piece of rust is in the passenger side gaurd.
About the size of a NZ 20 cent coin.
Can't complain about that in my $1500 PC hatch that I bought in 2010 or should I, haha

I remember paying $300 a door or thereabouts in the late 70’s and they were rusty, dinged etc. they were off a 12/77 SL 4.2, still have its tags somewhere. Doors like those above were at least $500 each back then. As a comparison you could still buy new guards and nose panels for $200 each, and NOS quarters for $250-300.

Probably more like 3000 each door now.

I think from memory the body shell is insured for $35000 plus parts as it sits.

I don't think I would see change out of 5 to 6000 if I was trying to buy them in that shape now.

Used a bit of rope to simulate the center line of the strut and mounted the hub assembly onto a lower control arm to see how it sat in the wheel arch. Bang on in center of the wheel arch, couldn't get it any closer if I tried haha.

Not at first. So are you going to use a custom alloy tank or do you have something else in mind?

Well the front panels and doors are now at the sandblaster to finish stripping them and get a coat of kbs and then etch primer.
Might see them this arvo or tomorrow all going well.
