Headlines today say there looking for a green Holden tori in a 1979 cold case of an 18 and a 14 year olds.

Has any over the years seen or owned the car ???is the car still around ??? Did some one chop it up for another resto ??? Or does anyone have books or paper work on the car ???.

Maybe someone can link the news report to this topic please.

Police say they have a man of interest from the hunter valley.

Cheers gong

I grew up in and around Lake Macquarie and Newcastle but I don’t recall ever seeing a Jade Green LH Torana sedan. It wasn’t an available colour on LX by colour chart A627, it was only available on Holden specifically Kingswood, Premier, GTS and LS. Jade green was first introduced with HJ colour chart A624 dated 10/74, and you could get it on anything except TA 1300, however most LH stayed with HQ colours until late October 1874. So the Torana in question would be a fairly rare car. Has to be built roughly 11/74 to the end of LH, a groupII metallic which on an SL will be a retail order probably. There would lucky to have been one or two of them in NSW. I reckon it may have been an SL/R

Also, I’d reckon if it was a Jade Green SL it probably had a white roof as well.

It may also have been Monterey Green which I think could also be had in early LH SL and SL/R

Get onto Crimestoppers in NSW if you still have the rego number or engine number or chassis number. The Police can chase its history from there.

The police over here have been looking for a yellow XA panel van since 1979 as well. Chances are it will be at the bottom of an old water filled open cut coal mine.

I thought NSW had destroyed all the older registration records? Didn’t Al discover that through his FOI enquires?

. I reckon it may have been an SL/R

The back spoiler is something that would stand out, so I'd say not a 5000. Maybe a 3.3 or 4.2.

IIRC he said his FOI was rejected as NSW will not disclose info about ex police car registrations, however I may be mistaken.

They have a lot from about 1983 onwards, and all electronically from early 90’s.

That’s why I said SL/R not SLR5000.

Dealers fitted spoilers to SL/R's to help them sell quicker, probably happened more to LX's though.

I bought a Jade green 8/75 SL 173 auto with 60V trim in about 2007 or 2009.

Send the chassis number through to NSW Police. There would be tens of thousands of LH chassis numbers in NSW records but they don’t know which are Jade Green. You never know, any one of them may nail a killer to the wall.

From a local car dealer in Fyshwick. It had a 307 chev fitted to it. Buggered if I can remember the rego or any other numbers.Had a white roof so doubt it was the car they were chasing.

I spoke to one of the Detectives on this today. I'm going to supply them with A622, A624 and A626 colour charts and overlays so they can look at the difference between Monterey and Jade Greens. Also supply them with the Jade Green colour sample and Chamois trim colour sample out of the LX/HX Colour Trim album so they can have real colour samples.

Arrimar and Redslur, you don't have any old rego, engine or chassis numbers of your cars? If they were registered in your names in your State NSW Police should be able to access the records from other States. You never know, if they get a chassis number they can look in NSW records to see if either car came from prior owners the area they are targeting.

Does anyone have a copy of the LH (HQ era with Monterey) or LH (HJ era with Jade Green) colour/trim combination charts? They look like an spreadsheet. They are normally out of the Order procedure or the Colour/Trim albums and shows the available colour (as single or 2-tone) on the left side rows and the trim across the columns, with R for recommended, X or //// for not available and NR as not recommended. Here is a HJ Belmont/Holden example:
