Hi all,

Hoping you can help with this one please.  I have pulled down a 308 I recently purchased.  I've noticed marks on the block around the top of the holes the lifters sit in. Only on one side of the block.  It might be historical damage, I'm not sure. I was thinking it might be from weak valve springs and he push rods jumping off the lifter. Any thoughts, as I was thinking of re-using the heads that came off the motor.

At the lower right of the 'reply to this topic' text box there is a button 'more reply options'

It will give you the option to add pictures

Thank you.  I checked the hydraulic lifters and I have four that are rock solid. I'm not sure if they came out of the holes with the damage at the top of the block but I am assuming so as there are four holes with the same type of damage. Also have one bent push rod and a broken rocker bridge. The vales and springs in the heads seem to be fine.

That’s nothing to worry about. It looks like tool chatter when the block was originally machined.
