Hi, I have a manual LX Torana and I’m after some advice on swapping out a 253 engine for a 308 with turbo 350. Would appreciate any advice on this conversion and if I need to convert the tunnel and crossmember or anything else or would it be a simple swap out. Has anyone done something like this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Tunnel should be ok
Buy a cross member to suit Turbo 350
Change yoke and shorten tail shaft
Speedo cable change
Change pedals to suit auto
Extractors might hit the turbo 350 if not enough clearance
There prob is a couple of other little things

Tail shaft will be pretty close if the TH350 is original behind the 308. Speedo cable will be tricky to get a stable speedo needle but some one here will know what to do.
Get yourself a HQ-HZ TH400 shifter complete with shift rod and trunnion for the attachment to the box. Try and get the wiring harness for it too, will plug straight into the Torana harness (the auto decent plug will have a shorting plug in it that will need removal). The console insert should be the same as a Holden.

Setting up the detent cable is one of those tricky jobs.
The bracket attaches on the engine intake manifold and the cable is actuated by the throttle on the carburettor. Look for a bracket to suit a Commodore or Statesman that had a TH350.
A flexible transmission dip stick works better than the chrome aftermarket ones as it gets in the way of the distributor.
Order a speedo cable longer than standard from Flexible Drive Agencies or use a 90 degree adapter to avoid the exhaust pipe.
When you buy the shifter make sure the actuating rod is included.
