Tyres are only legal for 5 years after the date code mate, you might have to put them on your trailer.

You've got the date code right - 39th week of 2010.

I think when determining whether or not older tyres are still fit for purpose or not, it comes down to a bit of common sense. As that Bridgestone article above mentions - yearly inspections after 5 years of age - and then ditch them after 10 years of age (regardless of their physical appearance or wear). Sounds like a decent approach to follow.

Having said that, I'm sure many people are still using tyres much older than 10 years though - what their performance, grip, safety is like.... toss a coin.

It's more the fact, once it's past 5 years old & considered illegal here in qld, if anything happens, will the insurance company tell you that you are not insured honestly ! I've seen a young bloke with tyres under the tread bar indicators have his claim rejected. So that is something to keep in mind.

They are 9 years old. Can you return them and get a refund? Purchased from ebay? Cut your losses or sell them to someone for burnout comps?
