Hey All, I am in the final stages of my build and have now found a few issues I’m hoping people have already sorted.
Due to the pump adaptor the oil filter now sits lower and fouls the bottom hose going into my Brown Davis radiator. I have tried a couple of other filters but still hits. I have tried the Z170 and Z89A which are shorter but still fat.
I have found the Z418A which is pretty small which should be ok size wise but can’t find any info on it weather it Fit for purpose?
Any info would be appreciated

Is this a 253/308 V8 ?

If it is try a Z160. Same thread & gasket, but only 76mm OD & 84mm high.

I would be trying to move or change the radiator hose than fit a very small oil filter.
Alot of parts places will let you/help you sift through rad hoses to find one that may suit better

I know the Holden V8 filter is the large Z30 but the LS engines run the small filters so surely the 308 can? Does anyone know any technical reasons against a smaller filter?

Z160 is the recommended filter for the Holden EFI V8 & the LS1 etc.

Thanks Dr Terry,

Obviously the Z160 won’t fit mine as it has the Chrysler oil pump so the thread is different but I cross referenced and the Z160 and came up with the Z418 and it’s the same size (small) Provided the 418 has the same internal properties it should solve my problem. Cheers

Well think about the difference between a large surface area air cleaner vs small, smaller blocks up faster, flows less due to restriction.

Yeah makes sense. I don’t see any other way around it though to be honest. The filter I have is the same size as the Z160 which is suitable for the VN 304 apparently so the one I have should be ok Although like you said won’t flow as quick as a larger one.

So I ended up going for K&N HP-1002 oil filter using a multi fit hose for the bottom of the radiator. It still touches the filter but far less than any other and the hose seems a little more hardy as well. I’d post a pic but photobucket doesn’t seem to work any more. Is there another app or site who hosts pics to put on here?
