Hi Heath, my clearance is 70mm, I checked it today. Its a case of that's what I want and now that's what I've got. If it becomes a problem then i'll look at plan B

Pretty sure you must legally have 100mm minimum ground clearance.

Might be an issue come rego time.

An over judicious cop will jump on it if it does go through rego.

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob, If that's the case can reset the height with different springs ( I am concerned with how little clearance there is )

The sump protection plate is now fitted.

Dry sump?

No it's a normal sump modified to suit the K frame ( about 5 litres )

A quick progress report for the hatch, I've been putting in the hours where I can but some family health matters have taken priority. I'm waiting on the interior guy to install the roof lining so that's put a hold on the glass. The boot area is now wired and plumbed, I've fitted the coolant reservoir and the oil breather catch can in the engine bay and a lot of stuff like door rubbers, bonnet release cable, speakers etc... Only a thousand things to go

Coming up very bloody nice, Harvey! Bet you can't wait to get it out for a drive.

Sorry to be 'that guy' but do you reckon that upper radiator hose will have enough flex when the engine starts torquing around?

Especially with an alloy radiator. I'd hate to see you stuck on the side of the road with the fitting torn out of the tank.

That's a good question Andrew, Its a very short hose and quite ridged, with temp in the hose it should be flexible but I don't know the answer to that,,,yet

I'd be looking for a standard rubber hose with the correct bend. Even though the motor twists towards the top radiator fitting, if the hose isn't pliable it will cause trouble over the long term.

Unless you have Tuff Mounts or something similar. I can't remember.

another alternative would be looking at making the way the radiator mounts more flexible.

I'm looking at the radiator mounts a will make a change to give it some flexibility. On a up note I have solved my GPS speedo problem with pure stupidity. Turns out that it's an Autometer speedo and runs of the speedo drive in the transmission but you can hook it up to a GSP antenna (I didn't think it through) so with that problem solved I've finished the dash wiring and fitted the lower panel and glove box. I won't flush fit the cluster until I've run the engine but its in place. The steering column has been rebuilt with bearings and a LX dip switch indicator stalk. The roof lining is going in on Tuesday night, I have fitted the rear boot panel so the interior guy knows how I want it finished with carpet.

Looks gorgeous Harvey, thanks for the update

Does the tacho sit at 1000rpm or was it running in the pic?

Trust me you would know if it was running!!! the Taco will reset when I put power on it. When I fit the steering column I'll start putting power on some circuits and check everything

It looks like getting the trim done by the end of the year is on track. Steve has fitted the roof liner and I've made the side panels, I moved the vent position forward about 50mm to cover the speaker position and they will look great covered. I have also made some thin aluminium cover panels for the boot area.

Will mounting the fuel pump inside the hatch area pass rego?

I don't think you want the possibility of fuel inside the cabin in an accident.

In an accident the fuel line could be damaged and spray fuel in the hatch area where you also have you circuit breakers.

My engineer has passed the fuel pump in the boot

I have come up with a way to give the radiator some flexibility,  I have made some brackets to mount in front of the support panel and fitted anti vibration fittings between them and the radiator, then drilled out the existing mounting points. This will allow for expansion and rotation. The brakes and clutch are bleed (the worst job on any fit out) and today my glass man fitted the front and back windows, I had to wait an extras 10 day for a clear glass front. I'll keep filling it up with fluid and hope to try a start in the new year. The interior guy has been hard to nail down but I won't stop hassling him. Merry Christmas boys and girls !!!

Nice Harvey. So close I bet you can almost taste it!

The only other thing I might suggest is to run an earth cable from the body to the radiator, maybe down low where it's out of sight? Especially alloy radiators have problems with electrolysis.

See the thread here: http://www.gmh-toran...d-when-mounted/

The holidays have been very productive for me, I completed the unfinished wiring. The park lights have been a problem,  finding a flat glass fronted headlight with the park light in the right position was driving me mad so I drilled a new hole for the lamp holder as close as I could to the headlight and  plugged the existing hole. I tested the circuit with the new relay (the donor car has a dip switch) and all is good. I completed filling the car with fluid and then added fuel to the tank....The SL is alive again!!!! She fired up with no problems and sounds awesome, I'm one happy camper. The interior guy came around today and fitted the carpet and door vinyl so I can add some more glass over the weekend. 2021 is a good year
