Good to hear Harv, I was under the impression that the Brown Davis 90lt tanks passed the departure angle test so it will be interesting to hear what they say. By the way is the the thieving brother :) still doing the paint because I know there is another hatch in his 50 year plan so your car may come back lighter.

Hey mate, I'm sure Brown Davis will cover the departure angle I just need to provide details. I'm so stoked I didn't have to change any of the items I wanted for the build. Don't worry Tex if I've wire up the race car he owes me a paint job ( I'll do most of the rubbing i guess)

Hi Harvey i haven't posted much since joining but i am after some info on putting an LS1 into my SSLX hatch, i have a current engineering certificate on the car for disk brakes, 9inch diff, drop tank and T56 gearbox. I was wondering if you had any guidence on required mods in the engine bay like can i keep my heater cover on the firewall and steering knuckle. If you had some pics of the LS1 in the car would be great. I hope you can help me out as there are so many opinions out there but no one to date has been able to tell me they have put an LS1 in there SSLX.

HI Andrew, very happy to help if I can, just in box me on the message app if you are after tech stuff. Your best bet is to speak to your engineer before you spend money

Hi everyone, I have been waiting for my ECU to arrive and be mapped. I should have it this week. I now have oil pressure turning the engine over on the starter motor, I have used a mechanical gauge while we test fire the car for security. While I have been waiting for that to happen I have made some enclosures for the rear speakers so they recess behind the rear panels ( i'll fit some fine mesh into the panels for the speakers)

I have also installed a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer in the void area behind the rear seat. It has a self contained system with a 8" subwoofer and a 150 watt amp. Basically it was as big as I could go, I made an enclosure for it and it slides into position behind the fuel pump panel. There is a remote control for the bass level output near the stereo. To light up the boot area I put in some LED strip lighting.

Good spot for the sub.  I would think about some sort of conduit over your battery cables though.

Today the SL came alive!!! I restole the ECU from my brother (I still don't have a replacment yet). Daimon (brother) came around to the workshop today with the ECU and we installed it, The car fired after we had fuel pressure (several leaks I had missed in checking) but no biggy. My concern was the extensive altered wiring but no problems at all that end. the fuel sender read (I put in 10 litres) the temp gauge, taco and alt worked plus all the coils and injectors so massive relief. Now, many fizzy drinks later I want to let in on it. The air intake sound is loud and the exhaust note is deep, happy days. I have some concern over the thermostat but I'll do more testing over the weekend.

It is a very nice feeling when a new motor fires up straight away, and everything works.

It has been a busy time over the last couple of months, I have stripped down the hatch (again) to the last nut and bolt and installed a spare K frame and an old diff ready for the prep and paint part of the operation. With all the concern of businesses closing down I purchased the paint and prep gear a couple of weeks ago. She is now heading to my brothers place for a couple of months, happy days

Harvey, very much continuing to enjoy your updates.

I get a serious hard-on for manual, V8 Torana hatchbacks that are built to be practical, servicable, usable road cars. This ticks many boxes for me.

Great planning and high quality execution. Love it!!!

We might have to be in the same state with our cars at some point and compare notes, haha.

Hey mate, you caught me out !!! I had a panel beater pick up the car last week for a final smoothing and gaping. I used the pic to show it on a trailer, She is now safe from COVID19 at his place. He said he prefers to rub them rather than hit em. I'm heading down there tomorrow so I'll get a pic of her temp home

Hi Heath, thanks that means a lot ( your the poster boy for what can be done and well executed) I totally love the idea that Toranas should be built to drive and handle. I have to go 50 pages in to Street Machine to find a manual car!!! I get the idea of horse power but make it turn a corner.

I would love to catch up and compare notes ( are you looking at a finish time line? )

I went to my brothers place today to reorganise the shed and have a general clean up before the next mess. I took a couple of pics to show you a real mans Cave!!. Daimon has built and painted the EH (his son's car) then built and painted the race car and decided he wanted a transporter for it so customised the Bedford with air bag rear suspension 253 and a turbo700. And finally we made a start on the hatch. (he still has a lot of other projects to get into)

Been following the build of your hatch, you are doing a great job. Looks like it's in very good hands with your brother. That Bedford looks pretty trick to.

Wooooaaaahhhh!!! How is that Bedford!?!?!?!?
Cooooooooooool.

EH looks quality as well.

Could not agree more with any of what you just said.

Well, let's race. We're actually at similar points in the build now. Although you're ahead with the wiring at least.

I'll be pretty keen to bring my car to Tassie too BTW. But yeah planning on wrapping this up before the end of 2020.
