While the cars away I'm finishing off some loose ends on the engine. The coolant line between the two heads was blocked off during the test fire (it normally flows through the throttle body to the top of the radiator) The water pump has the outlet to the radiator at the front of the pump so I had a -16 fitting installed and added one to the top of the pump for a braided hose to the radiator. I capped the outlet and tapped a NPT fitting into it. The cross over pipe has an AN male welded in and then install the line. Job done

We have reached a turning point in the prep/paint work. All the panels are gapped and final fitted. I put the front bumper on as well to make sure nothing else was a problem, so Daimon now has all the rubbing to do.(not my skill set)

I see the Spitfire in the background. The logo looks like the same font as the Spitwater pressure cleaners. What is it?

Spitfire is a diesel powered heater.

Mate had one in his panel shop before he went to a heated booth.

Cheers

You are spot on Rockoz, Its used to heat the area to about 34 deg for the hi fill and putty. That's the rub down area. The booth has over head elect panel heaters and are temp regulated

Not much for show and tell this week. The inside of the hatch has been painted and fitted and Bruv is rubbing hi fill (nice way to keep warm)

All good progress Harvey.  Can relate to keeping warm as it's freezing in Melbourne.  Cheers Ron

The hi fill has been rubbed and the putty coat applied. Daimon will have the putty rubbed this week , so we are talking colour and clear next weekend. Fingers crossed

Daimon has had a long week of rubbing, I can't say enough how grateful I am to have him work on the car. We spent friday arvo and evening masking everything with foam inserts between the panels and skirts all around etc...

Saturday was go time: I was in charge of mixing the paint to keep the gun with the gun loaded. Daimon put on four coats of colour and three of clear, I'm pretty stoked with finish. We will do the black outs on Monday. Time to sit back and enjoy a fizzy drink

Looks great Harvey. Colour - WooHooo.

Im interested in how you filled the gaps with foam inserts?  I'll be painting my LC this way I think.

Enjoy your fizzy reward. Well deserved.

Marty

I bet it’s a fantastic feeling to be painting the car, it’s such an exciting time of any build I think. But I’m a painter so I love that part, looks brilliant. Cheers

Hi Marty, The paint is fantastic and created a light hang over the next day (fumes?). The foam piping has a adhesive strip along one side and its really just stick as close as you want to the edge of the painted section (1 or 2mm)

I'm fairly confident Daimon is sick of looking at it, and I want it back at the workshop!!!

Hi Wazza, I used the GHM colour code. It looks dark in the booth but much lighter in sun light.

The last two weekends have made the the last three months worth while, Daimon has fine rubbed the clear and hit it with the buffer. We have waxed the paint and fitted the mirrors and trim. I put on the wheels and a grill ( not the final one ) to get a feel for the finished product. I've gone back to my youth again... She will be heading back to my workshop next weekend to get serious with completing the dream hatch.
