They still build them with the old non turbo HZJ motor for most countries in Africa. The whole dual cab with front and rear diff locks fitted is less than 50k. The only reason we can't have it here is because the federal government imposes a massive tax on anything that isn't Euro 5 compliant.

Yes I know, I saw them over there recently in many countries. They fit the good old reliable engines like that diesel and the V6 that was in the Hilux too. Nissans still get the 4.2TD too.

Info on the Tanzanian ones here. Bit off a stuff-up on the table near the end though, 6cyl specs with V8 diesel header.

Looks like the 4.2TD is gone from Patrol but you can still get the 4.8L DOHC petrol engine in South Africa.

The trouble is that they aren't cheap Col. When you find them for sale at the usual warehouses they are asking a motza for them.  Gone are the days when you could buy a brand new Holden V8 for $1,900.

Hi all, i think its the Federal Politicians who deserve the slow death as they are the ones who made the decision not to support the Australian manufactures as is done in opposing countries. I had the opportunity to visit the holden plant at Elizabeth. Fascinating to say the least, and i have just been a dumb farmer for forty plus. Jeff

Farmers are not dumb Jeff. We have held out longer than any other industry when it comes to avoiding unions, Worksafe, and corporate management, the very things which have killed manufacturing in Australia. Unfortunately, state and federal government are doing their best to tie us up in red tape as well. When I sell a sheep, it should become the buyer's responsibility, but no. After going through another couple of owners, it ends up in the boot of a car in Saudi Arabia, and for some reason I get the blame. Imagine if Taiwan had to take back every Hilux that had been treated poorly??
