I think there was a yellow Sunbird looking hatchback with flares wearing snoflakes too.

There is a photo in Norm Darwins "Torana Tough" on page 235 of the car. Someone may be able to put the photo up.

The hatch was shown at the 3/77 Melbourne car show. Leo Pruneau said many journo's walked past the car not realising it formed the basis for the a9x to be released later in the year.

There was only one concept afaik, the HJ GTS. Might have 14x7 polycast now but originally had snoflakes. Probably removed and stuck on other cars later.

I don't know the story behind this one, other than it was for sale for 85k a while ago.

First one is the 350Z Laurie. Old Man Emu was a HT GTS350 with an LT1, Muncie, 12 bolt and oil cooled brakes. Only bit that survived into production was the taller master cylinder.
There was a styling turntable Old Man Emu HQ mockup but it was just the first iteration of the 350Z (same car).
You can see the polycast rims on it (when sold it had jellybeans on it), same rims on Bagshaw’s 308 Premier SS concept and they left GMH on the Ewe’t - you see them in that magazine article when Ron Morphy had it. The Ewe’t was a GTS ute prototype before made into the Ewe’t.
I reckon the wheels on that Sunbird were the same ones on the HJ LE concept.

Thanks Laurie for putting up a photo of the referred hatch.

Yel327, if you ever come to Adelaide, I will be honoured to pick yourself up and be your Taxi for the day. No large suitcase as I will use the hatch. Ray

Nothing like that mate! I’m just interested in certain areas of GMH history and these cars are one of them. If you are looking for gurus on GMH stuff you want to talk to Dr Terry or Ben Stewart.
I was in Adelaide about 11months ago, spent a week in the State Library and another week or so between Mount Lofty and Kangaroo Island. I drove down though as I had to pickup a front end and 9” for my HK from Rodtech and interior from Winners. Bloody long drive between Wagga and Adelaide though! From Newcastle to Wagga seems very quick, and then you see the sign that says Adelaide 900+km. That drive across the Hay Plains is probably as boring a drive as I have ever done, hour after hour of nothing but trucks and Kangaroos.

Do any pictures exist of the HT Old Man Emu or the GTS ute?

I don’t if any exist of the HT old Man Emu. I don’t think it ever went past the early stages. The hydraulic cooled brakes were tested on a HK GTS327 at Lang Lang and failed at high speed so were dropped. They made it onto the Hurricane though. One of Harry’s later HG 308 powered versions turned up in South Australia a few years back. It was 308, M22 Saginaw and 2.55 rear axle. The tail rear axle was to keep the fragile 308’s revs down on Conrod. This car was probably where Harry’s 308 mods for L34 came from.
I do have photos of the GTS HQ Ute on the turntable on the roof of the Tech Centre but I can’t make them public as they are not mine to show.
