If it’s as good as it looks I’d pay up to $20k for that.

Starfire, MC6? and hidden banjo straight in the bin. Injected 5.0L, 4L60E and another diff straight in. I think I still have a full factory air setup here somewhere too.

Leave it looking exactly how it does now but with 14” wheels to fit HQ rotors and calipers.

Easy plans! If a car already has good paint and trim mechanicals they are a snack. I already have an offset ground stroker in the shed, full VP EFI setup. 4L60E are easy to find. Will bolt straight in. Probably have 3-4 HZ 3 row radiators and a 1-tonner tailshaft ready to cut. There is some new HZ rotors, rebuilt calipers and stubs in the shed too. I have some blasted and etched 15 inch Pontiac RallyeII in 6" and 7" too.  I think the only think I'd have to buy are a diff, V8 LH-LX accelerator pedal, EFI throttle cable and gearbox crossmember. It'd need a hole patch and new hole cut in the floor if it has a 4spd in it, but if it is auto the shifter could stay where it is. Tank would just need a weld in ring for an EFI pump. Easy car to build.

I'd do the same to a 6cyl or 4.2L Sandman if I found one in this condition.

If anyone wanted a hatchback and doesn't want to pay the stupid LX prices this would be a great car by the looks. Even if you just bought an old red 6 and Trimatic out of a HZ, LH-LX tailshaft and get the gears changed to 3.08 it would be a cool cruiser.

Shame it is on the other side of the world though!

That's what I thought. Good car for someone in WA. I had a sedan version of that car once. Bought a rusty UC Torana for $250 and swapped it over in a day and gave the remains of the UC Torana to the wreckers. We kept the MC6 in it though, just had to move it backwards.

If it's as good as it looks 20K would be minimum. You won't get a sedan in that condition for 7 these days.

I dunno about over there but if you advertised that for 20 on the east coast it would be gone in an hour.

Here it is $24500 where it's at at the moment.

Doesn't look to bad at all, I actually like the UC interior just can't live with the tailights.

Probably. I said I would pay up to $20k for it. Others will want a UC Sunbird more than that.

I tried to buy that car a couple years ago. It was in a storage warehouse in Brisbane. I think is was listed for 14k at the time. I offered 12k & missed out. Whoever bought it ditched the SLE wheels, tidied up the engine bay, gave it a cheap respray, changed the carpet mats etc. & put it through Loyds auctions. An SLE hatch is a fairly rare model.

Brick is holding the handbrake on.

Just remember guys, how you perceive UC is ingrained in your minds. I have always been the same. If GMH had decided to continue with V8 in UC there would have been no LX A9X. It would have been a UC A9X. 1977 would either have been L34 still racing (and probably winning) or the release of UC done earlier. Then most everyone would have wanted their LH and LX to look like UC. Just like everyone wanted their HQ to look like HZ or WB, VB to look like VK etc. I think if GMH hadn’t re-introduced V8 into VL everyone would view VL just like UC is perceived today. The unwanted ugly duckling in earlier Ford was always XF - because it never got a V8 and never raced seriously. UC for the same reason.
I firmly believe if A9X had been UC all the Torana nuts would be getting stiffies over this UC and it’d be $50k or more!

Looks like a late build.

I didn't think the hatch was sold as a SL/E?

I had one back in the day. Full options but no vinyl roof. Had air & discs all round.

To have a big block Starfire it has to be later.

I think that is a reasonable buy for around the 20k mark. I agree a nice little easy v8 conversion or even a v6 and leave it how it looks now and it is a nice cruiser for club days.

You couldn't get an SL/E with an Opel 1900, they were all Starfires.

The Starfire & the SL/E were both released in Sept 78.

The Brizzo owner had collected all front & rear panels etc. to do the LX conversion. I'm glad it wasn't done by the following buyer.

This isn't the first time you have posted up old pictures of current cars for sale Ando. Good work mate. :) This is what makes the forum a better place than Fbook.

It seems to me that history is repeating itself. The ZB has no V8 and is unloved. Will the VE/VF become the new LH/LX consigning the ZB to UC status? (Last of it's line and not that well loved)
