Hello to all,

My brother purchased my VE SV6 (2006 or 2007).

Hey stuffed the motor and had an engine swap. From what I can gather, they were both LY7 motors.

I think the two back sensors have a different plug. Computer saying take it to a GMH dealer.

Anyone have some advice .

Rainman

Take it to a gmh dealer? swap the sensors with the ones off the old motor?

Probably need more info - what sensors are we talking about? What exactly did the scan tool say ie. codes etc. Did he use his original ecu or the one that came with the new motor, as that will need to be reprogrammed to match the bcm & key reader etc...

Hey Garth, thanks for your reply. Its as I thought after having a read on google search. His mate at work had a damaged VE, so his mate done all the work. I don't think they used a scan tool. I feel bad, as I sold him the car around a year ago. He has no idea about cars. Not saying I do. I will advise him to see if there donar car is still available for required parts , then off to a dealer. Cheers Garth

Was the exhaust modified at all on either car?

Altering the exhaust can have some issues with the rear set of O2 sensors not getting the info they need.

It will then throw a code at you.

But it doesnt actually hurt anything.

Had a similar thing in my 06 VE SS.

Eventually the computer seems to think it has been telling you something is wrong for long enough, then it starts to throw more codes at you to get your attention.

A simple reset with a scan tool fixes it for another period of time.

If you can get it programmed to ignore the rear sensors, then it wont be any issue. But that costs coin, and a dealer wont do it.

The simple scan tools that you can buy for sub $100 that can reset codes will likely do the job.

Just plug it in and reset and away you go again.

Hope that helps a little.

Cheers

Rob

Just use the old sensors which have the correct plug.

Also you must use the old ECU, as this is the one programmed to your car's VIN etc.

They might both be LY7 engines, but make sure the replacement unit came from a VE. If it came from a VZ, you will need to swap several other sensors as well, they won't be compatible.

Thank you Dr Terry, unfortunately the ecu was not purchased. My brother is a Ford person, let's say no more. The car starts and drives but after a month it cuts out. I have a Pic of the old sensors and the new wiring loom sensor connector. Going to try a new connector from the loom to the old sensor if possible. First is old sensor connection. Second Grey color, new connector I need to match is the square black one.

if they are both ly7 engines is ok

but you need to use the sensors that fit the plugs ofyour car

that would not cause the car to cut out

is the management light on !

does it run smooth at idle or under load

to fit a vz engine in a ve you need to change the cam drive cogs

the engine woundn't anyway

cheers  bat

Thanks bat, both same engine. The black one at the top is the one on the exchange motor. The bottom Pic is the old sensor loom, still connected to the sensor that ran the removed motor. I hope to get a replacement into the top Pic to the old or new sensors as well? Rainman

There are several different sensors for VE V6 Commodores, that model series ran for nearly 7 years.

Don't muck around with patch harnesses, just buy the correct sensors for the job, they won't be that much more expensive. Besides, one of those sensors is a 5-wire & the other a 4-wire, so they are incompatible.

I stock all of these sensors & the worst case scenario is $130-$140 including GST per sensor.

Phone me on (02) 9644-2888 & I will explain further.

if i understand correctly you didn't use the old engine harness

that could be the problem

i work for just commoder wreckers

we found that if there is any difference in the harness's we always use the original

got caught a couple of times

had many customers come in with engine light, running after market sensors

put second hand originals in fixes the problem

cheers  bat
