Just about to start my lx build this is my 1st full car build planning to make it look like a9x but with a few different mods
Car is 4 door rolling shell
For anyone that has done this build i would like to know in what order did they complete the project, just the main steps not expecting step by step just thought it would be good to find out from people that have learnt from there mistakes

I haven't done an A9X build but have done a 4 door build and lots of times I regretted getting the paint done too early

It is difficult to cut, drill or bend painted panels for me. Wish I had built the car in primer, stripped out the mechanicals and electrics then sent it to the panel shop for paint

Make a plan & stick to it.

Get a whiteboard for the shed.

There's always down time waiting for parts etc. Use this time to clean / detail all of the parts , then wrap them up in plastic .

Paint last, before final assembly. Make sure all fits properly, gaps all good ect before paint

Sandblastings OK if they know what they're doing, but don't do the boot bonnet or roof.

Don’t use anyone unless recommended by someone you trust and you will be ok. Be sure your body and panels will be usable as it is a fair investment. Get everything two pack etch primed immediately.
The rest of the story is all good. You will have all the faults revealed and can work on them at your own pace.

Hey Birch
Is there much rust repairs to do on the car?
The way i am attacking mine is to leave the paint that's already on there and just reveal the parts that I am fixing 1 at a time.
The parts that i have stripped back fully and repairs I have completed I have coated in fish oil until I am completely ready for the epoxy primer.
My uncle's mate recommended this way to me and he is a panel beater/spray painter.
If you get it fully sand blasted then primed you will need to be removing the primer anyways in order to make all of your repairs.
Seems silly and will cost more money I believe.
Fish oil is cheap and works well and just wax remover will get it off.
Try and finish each job too, other wise you end up with alot of half done jobs.
Hope that helps bud
Enjoy

Probably best to source another K frame. If you get the engine mounts wrong, nothing else will go right. If you know a young bloke who is good on facebook, they should be able to find you one pretty quick.

I thought removing the paint would show all the areas that require repair, then start the plan.

I would set a budget for the project and then double it !!!  Build the car so it starts, drives and stops then strip it for paint. You will learn all the skills you need as you go. Good luck and just persevere

The body looks like LX, but that crossmember is pre RTS I think.

Yep. 65mm is RTS. He may have removed the rag coupling cover as well? Maybe that was later on, but I'm sure at least some LX's had them.
