Hi guys.im in the middle of repainting my wheels close
to original colors using protec barrier jet black and
an silver but noticed when i had a little sand on
outside of rim that it appears it was black first then
2 layers of silver.is there a possibility that they were
all black? Or have gmh just used that as an undercoat
for the silver.

Cheers maz

Heres a pic of said rim 12/69 dated.. as you can see
the outside is painted all black.when i seen an ppg
distributor they mentioned they changed over their
System from acryl to 2k 5yrs ago so i just ended up
using jet black.ive painted one side and still have
another non original wheel to do.you should of seen
the huge bubbles on the spare rim lol.that one was dated
the 10th 69..pics

S and SL were silver and GTR and XU1 were black?

Maybe all rims were supplied from ROH or whoever painted black, and GMH painted some silver??

I've seen many original GTR wheels from that era with a silver speckled finish over the black.

As above..they are funny those GTR type wheels, they look Silver in pics where the car is being driven, but stopped they are black with the silver "speckle".

An owner up our way seemed to replicate it very well..black wheels being rotated by hand slowly, and silver spray gun set to sort of just spit the paint out.

( I think that's what he said) regardless...they looked orig.

Well i went to put the clear over the silver little
while back and seen a little overspray but thought
She'll b right and well the clear enhanced the
overspray something cronic .i didnt really notice it
till i got to the last rim and they all had it in same
area so i spat it.. lol. and took the face of all
the rims back to metal and went black and gee idk lol.

Ive taken the black off the chrome centre cap and look
a little better.i have some old dress rims here
which have a gazillion teeth to hold rim on and will
scratch the crap outer the rims..what do you guys
think i should do..would yous try gtr centre caps
with chrome acorn nuts?? To me she resembles and army
car atm haha..

Just paint the silver and clear again.
