It looks very tidy and original. Maybe a pity it is three on the tree as looks too good to modify. I wouldn’t want to change anything non bolt up.

I’d leave the 3spd but change it to a V8 input shaft and cover, then stick a 308 or 253 in it. Do it with as minimal changes as possible but keep the original stuff, maybe keep the original engine subframe and modify a donor one. Perfect car to do that to as it is just an LC sedan.

A mild 202 would see it getting along just fine.

Na, V8 or leave as is! These are the junkers we used to play with in the 80’s and 90’s. The Grandpa cars were the best, low km, didn’t need paint. Red 6 and other scrap in the scrap bin and in with a big block or a big small block for Holdens or 308 for Toranas. Today I’d be a bit more circumspect and leave the 3spd rather than butcher the floor.

I remember a lot of snapped axles, shattered spider gears, spun lsd hemispheres, oh yes and mullets, wanky keyboard drum machine music, and Toranas considered as junkers. Fond memories indeed....... 8)8)

Yes. Unless you were lucky enough to have a rare optional 12 bolt in HK-HG or you put a 9” in it. Or you already had a HQ with a Muncie or HQ-HZ with TH400 and you put a 9” in it. Even then a 375hp SBC would still kill an LSD 9” easily, but a spool fixed that.
