The carburetor in question was a single barrel lj gtr carburetor, i thought that Grant's lone o ranger 72 gtr had the same 3 - 43 on it, but i could be wrong.

Thanks John. Has all the other XU1 identifying features (baffles/stensil/lsd etc) which corroborates the date stamps I guess. Whats with the green dollop of paint on the rear of the diff housing by the way, anyone know? and also is my passenger rear metal brake line supposed to be so wonky?anyone got a photo of how its supposed to look. Might have to replace it.

Better photo of the passenger side metal line. It twists upwards towards the rear portion of the trailing arm. Just doesn't look right?

Yes I know that's a nice dent in the tank but don't intend fixing it as might make matters worse if its not done right so happy to leave it alone rather than disturb all the nice white original sealant GMH used to fit these in place. :<_<:

That’s what you’re after and the lime green Inspection mark is for WM baffled diff housing.

Yep, it definitely has a kink in yours, like the crabman says. Probably someone mucking around with the brakes at one stage & as they undid the tight nut, the pipe twisted up. If you're going to try to straighten it out, go little bits at a time carefully, so you don't kink or split the brake line.

Thanks Gary/Anthony. Who would have thought the green dollop meant the WM baffled diff housing??. You learn something every day off you blokes and forum members.

Yeh I noticed the original dripping paint run quite funny. The wire was always there (so I left it) and there's a washer braised onto the diff plug as well as the gearbox plug. I posed this question ages ago on this forum. this is apparently a requirement for racing however I have no roll cage bolt holes (or signs) so not sure why the original owner did this because I know of the previous 2 owners but not the 1st. Had a tail shaft loop fitted as well, and apparently was raced at the old Surfers Paradise raceway (has been a Gold Coast car since the middle 70's as still has original Qld black & white number plates fitted) but I have no evidence to support this part of its history. Would have been Chateau Mauve in those days so if anyone want to dig around and find something go right ahead (Provided it wasn't crashed  :<_<: I don't want to know! )

Probably was John, whatever took up less space on the factory floor I'd say. It probably has very little runs for the gmh factory in reality.

I think it was sprint circuit's, that require the securing on the drain point's, but no roll cage. I know a handful of car's like that.

"Sprint Circuits" are probably club motorsport events, one car at a time, so a cage wasn't required.

I have no roll cage bolt holes (or signs)

Hi Mark

With the LC and 72 XU-1,s ( Group E ) the majority only ran half cages. The B pillar section of the roll cage ( Across the roof ) quite often bolted into the seat belt mounting point in the floorpan. Meaning the floorpan could have no signs of a roll cage fitted. The only signs may be some holes in the parcel tray panel at the rear ?

That's very interesting!! On the rear parcel shelf they've cut speaker holes in mine and I know they were cut by the previous owner mid 80's as he's a mate and I know this cars history back to late 70's, so we can assume that the parcel tray was uncut prior to that. Looking at the above photo, appears the cage mounting points on the parcel shelf is in very close proximity to where you would normally cut speaker holes, so you may be right, there might have been 'signs' in that area prior to speakers. The inside of my boot has never been painted so its original and I've crawled under there looking for signs but nothing unusual stands out other than the horrible mess of the speaker holes by the nibbler machines.

So to try and research Group E participation between say 1972 and 1978 is that difficult?

C.A.M.S will more than likely ask you for the driver name followed by a chassis number , that’s just how there records are filed

Well I believe his name may have been Paul Cotter. Had a Mechanical business here on the Gold Coast during the 80's & 90's.

On the subject of numbers - there are two sets of three digit numbers to be found on you Bosch starter motor assembly.

Solenoid switch housing and the starter motor case and these may gel with the '223' stamped on your distributor [ mine do].

For example -

Solenoid switch housing -  323

Starter motor case          -  324

Distributor                       -  325

If your Bosch alternator has some numbers stamped into the case [ have seen a couple that did ]  then again these may gel with your  Distributor / starter numbers.
