Hi guys.uno that cover that goes over the petrol tank
sender inside boot.ive had mine off because the fuel guage was fluctuating quite a while back and i cleaned out the
boot today and put it back on with the rubber mat over
it...i turned the key nothing.no lights..im thinking..
whats going on here.you was going just the other day.
Soo i felt the - battery lead and was very hot.so disconected it and took the mat out and took the cover
back off. - lead back on and tried the lights and are
working..battery was too flat to start....anyway is that rubber mat doing someting or is it when the cover
touches the metal fuel pipe it earting out? Or is there
something else going .

Clean the battery posts and terminals would be my first guess.

Yes the + was dirty rodomo and had been for awhile..

So there lays the problem.? I forgot to say i cleaned
it a little then tried again but didnt think that was
the prob..

Dirty terminals will make heat and also low cranking speed. Get some sandpaper and shine the posts and terminals up, tighten and try again.

There is nothing with the fuel sender wire that will cause the negative lead at the battery to heat up.

It is designed to work near enough to being earthed out.

That is unless somewhere along the way the wire has found itself in the wrong place.

Cant think of a single thing that moving the boot mat, or the metal cover being on or off that would cause the issue.

However.

If the negative connection to the body or engine wasnt connected, there could be a chance for the ground power to run back through the fuel line to the battery in ways different to what it was intended to do,

Check all of your connections.

Battery connections, and earth points.

 

Power will always take the easiest path it can to complete a circuit.

 

This is the major shortcoming of the cost savings in using an earthed body.

It also why it is never used in marine applications, particularly with metal hulls.

In marine wiring, everything that uses power has both the positive and negative wires run to it.

Electrons running through the hull of a boat can destroy the hull in a very short time.

Thanks for the info Rob.. Nar - was on thank christ but thats good to know..checked most connections they are all sweet.charged up battery and will give her a turn over
tomorrow.when i put an gtr loom in the temp guage went
off the chart but temp was good when used a probe in
tank.i then put heater hose on and now its about 3/4.
Still not right.b interesting to see if it drops when i put the 2 manifold warmer hoses on..
