I'm only new to the classic car scene and didn't buy my car to show it but I believe we all need to show our cars more to keep the younger generation aware of the history of Holdens particularly now that GMH no longer exists. It also may kindle interest in the young blokes which might ensure we maintain the values for years to come, but are there any pitfalls to showing your car as I've never done it? are there likely to be maggots out there that will deliberately cause damage or attempt to steal off the car (tags). What do you have to watch out for?  Has anyone had or heard of problems?

Depends where you show it and who's attending the show

Try to keep a buffer zone between the car and the people... stands,ropes etc

And out of reach... you'd be surprised the amount of people that love to lean on other peoples cars at show

By all means... get it out there... in the right circumstances

I took mine to a cars and coffee meet Sunday morning, no regrets. Everyone there was respectful and well behaved

Go out and enjoy it, great feeling having a car worth taking

Reckon the layout has a lot to do with it.

Some car shows cram the cars in pretty tight ( may need to due to the allowable space) and thus the prams, ice creams, works purgers, clowns with chains on the belts etc etc get up close and personal.

 

At Toranafest we very deliberately space the cars out to almost silly levels. Miles of room between, in front and at the back.

 

I think 99% of people are pretty aware of the work involved and the $$ tied up in these cars and act accordingly. 

But there is always that feral family who are bred not to give a f%$k.

 

As for ropes and stands( captive under the wheels) , that seems to work 100%.

 

As above, you meet some nice people at shows, reckon the positives far outweigh the negatives. 

 

Keep your attitude light and breezy and enjoy being made aware of all the things wrong with your car, as some random educates you!..lol

Mark, have you been to one of your local small car gatherings?

I went to one last year at a shopping centre at Pimpama, it was in a car park so the cars were pretty close but still safe in my view. Think it is second Sunday night of every month.

People usdd to steal my shiny valve caps from my wheels even when i was with the car all day. I suspect it was kids wanting them for their bikes. I loktite them on and never lost another. Other than that I've never had a bad experience.

Prior to the LH SLR black grain ash trays being repro'd, I had head of 1 or 2 of them going missing from cars with the windows down.

I’ve spent 20 years driving my car to events and shows - meeting and mingling with people and having a great time. My 3 kids are now part of the adventure too and love it.

Don’t hide away from it - get out and enjoy it - and share it with the public I reckon.

I understand people with all-out show cars or prestige rare models will be a bit more wary, and rightly so - but as mentioned above, just be selective on the shows you attend if that’s the case.
