Hi All,

I was paint striping the passengers front door  of the LH torana and found the metal frame of the door at

the lower hinge has cracks radiating from one of the bolt holes.

Wondering how common this might be?

How should I go about fixing these cracks with a MIG?

Do I cut through cracks then MIG?

Thanks.

Drill holes in the ends of the cracks. This will stop them from advancing further. Then plenty juice mig up.

Super common problem, especially on hatchback doors that are heavier.

You can definitely mig them up.

But its a good idea to remove the backing plate from behind first, then weld up, then return the backing plate. (Just a matter or bending one of the tabs that hold them in place to remove)

Otherwise you can accidentally weld the backing plate to the door itself which will cause a number of problems.

Thanks all for the advice.

Repair done by drilling holes at the end of cracks and MIG'ed.  I found it better to also drill holes along

the cracks and plug weld as i got better penetration. Sanded flat with belt sanding file.

On closer inspection I found more fatigue cracks on the lower bolt hole as well.
