I have a 73 LJ xu1. When I bought the car it came with some old photo's. One of the photos shows the car with a previous engine.

Engine number: N5L246799. Does anyone know the origin of a 202 with this numbering

It is a GMP&A replacement for a WB, VC or VH (possibly VK) 3.3L high compression engine. If it is on a 202 block (not a 3.3 block) it has been restamped.

Thanks for the info. The engine is no longer with the car and you are probably right about being a 3.3. The photo's are ones of the car prior to my ownership so do't any other info. The car is a 5-73 Adelaide build
