After the Turkish invasion of Cyprus , the country was split up in two in 1974, with a demilitarised zone extending across the country. This zone is up to seven kilometers wide in places, and is still patrolled today by a United Nations peacekeeping force.

This Toyota dealership was last open when the "Atilla Line" was put in place, and the new cars that were sitting on the floor then are still there now.

Yep me too. Wouldn't mind one of them but I have always loved the early supra's.

They pretty much are.

When I was serving there (2005) I learned the sewer had burst and the cars were sitting in a foot of liquid nastiness for quite some time.

The Celica and two Corollas escaped that fate having been dragged out of the basement quite some time prior.

Just as cool as the Toyota dealership is the (then) brand-new airport complete with a Trident jetliner that has sat relatively untouched inside the buffer-zone since 1974:

https://www.google.c...Q_AUoAnoECBMQBA

But the coolest thing was encountering a first-Gen Monaro on VIC rego driving though the buffer-zone one day, part of which are full of eucalyptus and look just like dirt/gravel roads back home - it looked quite normal until realising the scene was half a world away from where it should be...

Cheers, TB

Here’s one in Serbia

Speaking of Eucalypts overseas, driving up into the mountains in Rwanda to go hiking to see the Mountain Gorillas (decedents of Dianne Fossey’s subjects), the roads are lined with Aussie trees. Looks just like home.

That's not the last Celica. The last Celica here was front wheel drive.

My "last" reference was to the last photo posted by Laurie which contained a celica. Celica production finished about 2005.

Yes I saw that when I was there just over a year ago. And all over NZ South Island too a few weeks ago saw heaps. Should export them some Koalas to eat them, they can fight with the Possums. Never seen so many Possum road kills as I did over there.

I took one of them to the scrappers still with rego on it. Rusty pus bucket. I think it was a little Toyota 6cyl. My girlfriend had back then it when we first started dating, she cleaned up a kid on a bike with it because it wouldn’t stop or steer. Kid was OK but it shook her up, so it went to scrap. Replaced with an XF Falcon ex cab.
