i believe a have the wrong master cylinder for disc/drum

so to sum up, it most likely not proportioning correctly, being early rears and late everything else. in a market where originality is king I think I'll go the back to old master and external prop valve. in the mean time I think I'll check the proportioning and try and get it right thanks all thats right Doc, my booster is angled...damn it!

I've had a car like this before.

 

A previous owner had fitted an early UC rear end to a late UC with the later m/cyl.

 

I tried several fixes, the most obvious was to fit the smaller 9-16" wheel cylinders & brake shoes to suit.

 

This worked OK, but we later fitted the later UC (Commodore) style brakes, this worked very well.

This describes my UC also.

Except the wheel cylinders on my UC were 22.2mm.

 

Until I can find some late UC backing plates, associated brake hardware and handbrake cables, I need wheel cylinders and shoes for  LC/LJ with disc brake front? 

P5573 wheel cylinders and N1132 brake shoes - is this correct ?

 

Is there a 5/8 inch wheel cylinder available with concave ends to suit the little pushrods ?

The backing plates, the brake shoes & all of the hardware are the same as VB/VC/VH Commodore. The drum is the same except for the stud pattern & possibly the centre spigot hole.

 

N1132 hoes & P5573 cylinders  will almost fix the locking up, but the Commodore brakes are better again.

What about 4cyl Commodore?

4-cyl Commodores got the same rear brakes. The only difference was the drums.

 

The 4-cyl got the Torana stud pattern, but the holes are larger to suit the larger (12mm) studs,

 

Also the centre spigot might be a different size, although I'm not sure on that one.

 

If the 4-cyl Commodore spigot was the same as Toranas, the drum will fit fine.

Thanks for that.

I had always assumed that commodore drums were larger.

Early commodore stuff should be much easier to find.

I will probably just buy a complete diff, and then sell the bits I do not need.

 

Handbrake cables should then be the only issue.
