Can someone please tell me why the Fuel Gauge and Amp meter light on my LJ are working when the ignition is in the off position?

Instrument lights are operated by the head light switch and are completely independent of the ignition switch.
Strange that only your fuel gauge and ammeter are illuminating and not any of the other instruments?

Perhaps i need to rephrase what i meant.
When the ignition is in the off position the red amp light is illuminated and the fuel gauge needle is sitting at 1/2 way. The instrument lights are not illuminated

Oh, apologies I misunderstood your question.
I'm thinking the adjustment on the ignition switch (electrical switch) at the lower end of the steering column has moved or the switch is faulty or the plastic sector gear in the coffee pot is badly worn.

That sort of makes sense, will look into it.
Thanks for that

Tried 2 other switches and it hasnt fixed the problem
I can disconnect the wires from the switch and the amp meter red light and fuel gauge are still working.
Got any other solutions?

Unplug the brown wire from the IND connection on the Alternator that should extinguish the GEN light, subsequently how does that affect the fuel gauge?
Perhaps you have a faulty Alternator and/or regulator?
