Mitch's UC Torana Budgie Budget Build

Few rust repairs around the place to do and plan is to get everything underneath sorted, interior sorted and get it regoed before worrying about the rest of the paint.
Not so budget 9 inch is being built and then need to sort wheels to fit and should have a decent stance on a ratty body lol. Thankfully I have everything at home to work on the body so if I find myself shaping and blocking it will be a bonus.

Nothing ever goes to budget with a car build.
What was he old story? If its got tits or wheels it will be expensive.
Cheers

Painting the body hasn't even crossed my mind yet lol. Rusty sunbird yellow will do for now, at least until its moves.
Next plan is hide all the wiring, remove the diff and fit the LX fuel tank before installing the 9". Then making the wheels fit.
It started as a budget build because originally I was going to be keeping the 202 and get it running as it was with just a tidy up and a few new parts. Fortunately 2020 has been promising for me (which is quite the opposite for many) and it has allowed a little splurging and a change in plans. Considering it was barely touched for first 6 months of ownership, It's come along quite nicely. Had it 12 months next weekend.

Will get more pics over weekend but finally have LX tank in, 9 inch in and sorting HQ drums and measuring for tyres. Just a teaser -

The 9inch is in. New shocks and springs. Everything underneath the car is now brand new. Finally bought tyres and got it back on the ground.
Next step is brakes and wiring. Biggest issue is time.

Got the engine wired, shifter linkage set up on the trimatic for B&M Megashifter. Being manualised, I’ve been carefully lining this up to work properly. And got the car started and running! Massive boost for motivation!
Started piecing the brakes together and got a said of HX commercial calipers to try out. If not, will be ordering a set of hoppers and going that route.
Have been a bit concerned about the booster/master situation. Being UC I need a bent pushrod booster, and going v8 i needed double diaphragm. After a lot of research on the stickies I was considering the only way I could accomplish this “cheaply” would be changed to LX pedal and grab one of those universal boosters and master. Low and behold one night trawling facebook I found the holy grail for my setup. Dual diaphragm, bent pushrod and angled master. Perfect considering I have a brand new master to suit UC here! Booster is brand new and for $300, stoked!

Is the booster a VH345 or VH346?
#43

If I remember correctly, the VH345 had the bent pushrod but still had the straight sides like the earlier VH329
They didn't have the pressed shell and bent pushrod until the VH346
But, I don't think the above is either as it has the later diagonal m/c mounting studs. And as there were no V8 UC's, it may be a VH361 but for that price it's more likely someone has Frankenstein'd it?

I wouldn't worry too much, providing it actually bolts to the firewall and the pushrod is the right length it should be just a matter of finding a m/c that fits.
Just be aware of the changeover between imperial and metric threads right around that era.

Hi Mitch. Well done firing up the car. Good point by Andrew about threads, and correct flaring, depending on the M/C. I'm sure you will get it to suit. Cheers Ron.
