Making great progress Mitch. It was always respectable, it's a UC after all. And whilst I wouldn't call it a racecar it is basically an A9X.

I know. Put a 308 in it and it's an A9X. Is it not? Yeah sure needs a gearbox and a diff but those are easy to find. Top loader and a 9"?

But same body. Suspension front and rear. Brakes. Steering. Perhaps not? I'm not a an A9X expert but I do know quality design and there is a good reason why the A9X never raced internationally.

Front.
A9Xs are no more a race car than my GU Patrol.
Keep up the good work Mitch.

Without getting too into it, the only things that a UC have that make them "like an A9X" are essentially:

- They both used the upper front control arms with the offset balljoint - to have more +ve castor. (good thing, like LX RTS front end over an LH one... it was a development like many others that improved the car)

- They both used cast iron Salisbury type diff housings that they saved money on by using existing tooling on from a full-sized Holden (10-Bolt in the case of an A9X, 8-Bolt in the case of a UC), and therefore they had a different - but barely improved - rear upper arm geometry to a regular LH/LX Torana. (Cost-cutting, no real qualitative score on this one)

I think you would have to argue that the changes such as an A9X having four wheel disc brakes, including vented disc brakes on the front end, a diff that was finally up to the task of dealing with punishment of a decent V8 motor, an (admittedly 'optional' but let's say assumed for a flagship A9X) durable gearbox for the same purpose, giant flared arches to accomodate wide rubber on all four corners, cowl induction, front air dam with brake ducting... these are more notable to the credibility of an A9X than the two points above.

If you ever see me talking about UC's saying they are like A9X's, I assure you I am being facetious. UC's being like A9X's is platinum quality bogan bullshit that is needlessly perpetuated again and again.

Yeah but the thing is that they share the same shitty pressed steel control arms (front and rear), shitty pushrod motor, shitty floating (not opposed) piston brakes, and UCs got a disk brake rear end too, etc. etc. See, same same. Haha I am clearly a bogan, more articulate than most, and I know how to use apostrophes correctly too just quietly.

Only some of them Heath. The offset balljoint was introduced during production of the A9X.

Well, finally pulled the car cover off. Still looks the same.
Did throw on a brown davis drop tank. Was stoked it had cutouts for original mounts so did not have to remove anything. Its a bit big…

Yeah it's funny how they don't restore themselves even when left under cover. Nice tank. Tin hats on (for the service folk among us)...I had one of those under a VC Commodore once. Got defected coming back to Canberra from Sydney one Christmas eve. Fcuking NSW cops. Got me for the half roll cage too lol.

Grabbed the tank for $300, couldn’t pass it up. Even better I didn’t have to cut any mounts so because I know it wont pass engineering or rego I can slap the LX tank back in anyway for that. The drop tank is more likely to not get damaged on the car than in the garage so it made more sense to put it on out of the way.

Bargain. You'd be mad not to buy it. More like an A9X every day. Keep up the great work.
