Hi all ,I'm having trouble with the rear door cards sitting hard up against the panel ,I can't see how the pinchweld is going fit around the door opening let alone under the scuff plate .I have the carpet sitting under the door card over the square body section, should this be cut back? Any help on this greatly appreciated,Thanks Paul.

Paul I know my rear door cards are unmolested and I even suspect my carpets are the original as they are too shitty to have been replaced prior to 1981, however I have a screw in my door cards which I'm not 100% sure is standard? the screw would pull it all together I'm guessing?

Sorry should have mentioned mines 5/72 LJ whereas your cards look LC, so not sure about that model.

You would soon know if yours had the screw as there'll be a self tapping hole on the inner?

Yeah mine has the screw Mark ,but I think even with that I'll be battling. Is this part hidden when the seat is put in place?

Yes well and truly. The reason I mentioned my carpet being original is because its quite thin and incorporate the thin carpet with my original 'Jute' underlay that the rears of my car still has. The jude doesn't rise much up the sides (see photo) so its really only the carpet that rides up and behind the card. Not sure how thick your new carpet is or how much up the sides your underlay goes?

Thanks for the photo references Mark ,the carpet is tucked up about an inch under that square section ,I think I'll cut where I marked ,that will take the pressure off the card in that area a bit .

Yes that carpet of yours looks nice and thick. I guess I'd make sure no underlay is up the sides and that it only remains on the bottoms of the floor otherwise if you intend using the screw through the sides (I can understand if you don't) it will not sit flush.

Paul I'm pretty sure my carpet is not tucked up under the square section as you call it. See my last photo. My carpet just butts up against it but having said that, who's to say that my carpet is supposed to be under and its slipped out over the years.

It's definitely a struggle getting the pinchweld on both the card ,carpet and door opening and then under the scuff plate , the carpet is quite a bit thicker.

Done this last year.I also found the carpet was thick and the pinchweld wouldn't go on. To help out I trimmed the carpet so only around 20mm was under the card. Make sure the carpet is fully pushed down onto the floor before trimming. I then marked out where the scuff plate and card sat on the carpet. I then carefully trimmed the pile off the carpet up to this line effectively "thinning" the carpet under the card and plate back to the carpets' backing. Resist the urge to pull the pile out as it will come unstitched in areas you probably don't want it too. A new Stanley knife blade is what I used. The pinchweld still looks fatter but better than it was. All in all a fairly fiddly job but seems to be OK.

Regards Steve
