Hi Guys

i’m after the anti pollution fitting that goes in the top of the thermostat housing.

I need the complete fitting so I can run the hose from the canister and return to the manifold

thanks in advance

Dazm

The vacuum temperature switch on top of the thermostat switches the vacuum advance line to the distributor, it has nothing to do with the carbon canister.

And if I recall correctly, was only on manuals?

Maybe 2 different switches for auto and manual? Dunno, forget, might have to look at old diagrams?

What I do remember is that switch (the big one on top of the thermostat housing) controlled vacuum advance on the manuals but only in top gear. The switch on the gearbox was an electric switch and there was another elect over vacuum switch???......mounted to the side of the rocker cover?
All from memory

My manual HX was vacuum advance in top gear only, controlled by the canister shaped switch on gearbox. This was overridden by the switch on the thermostat housing if the temperature got hot, so that the distributor got manifold vacuum, rather than ported vacuum, in all gears. Then another vacuum line drove the egr.

Absolutely horrible system. Throw that black spaghetti in the bin, or if you want it looking original, ball bearings were used to block it up. Rejet the carb. They were too lean from factory.

Yep, looked at the "she'll be right" manual today and it said both auto and manual.
There is still something in my brayn about pollution gear that only effected manuals?

Maybe I'm just getting old?

The auto has to be different as the shift lever switch will not know when gearbox is in top gear. Possibly it would allow ported vacuum when in drive.

I wonder if you could use one from a commodore? It looks the same as the type on the VB to VK series

I have a bog stock Starfire 4 here so let me know if any pics are needed

Gregory predates Google and about as reliable. No, more reliable. Must have given mine away with the HX when I sold it. Sad day. Never sell.

Your needle looks like a pop rivet stalk? I'm pretty sure the valve normally faces the other way too?

I dunno Maz? Maybe the auto had the valve on the T Stat housing but not on the trans?

I've still got this memory of man had something that auto didn't?

LHSL...……..is your car manual?

Rodomo no auto. The way it is facing was from factory. The needle is sharp maybe someone shoved it in to block the hole? Who the hell knows.
