Wanting to find out whether anyone is running these tyres?

I'm thinking of putting my old 14x7 Torana Hotwires back onto my un-flared hatch. The wheel backspace is 41/8" on all rims & the cars front & rear guards are rolled.

Tyre choice is very limited to mainly garden variety passenger tyres.

The only old school tyre size that's close is the BF Goodrich TA Radial 215/60R14. With a diameter of 614mm or 24.17", it's pushing the limit for turning space on the front & may result tyre scrubbing.

I can flatten the front inner wheel well seem if I have to gain more clearance.

I'd like to hear from others experience before I commit to buying the tyres.

Cheers Ando

I used to run 235/60/14 under the rear of my unflared hatchback on 14x7 HK-HG rims. I think the backspace was more like 4.5" though, but at one stage I did have 14x7 Simmons copies on it in HQ pattern with the A9X rear axle with the same tyres, those were I'm pretty sure the standard HQ-HZ 14x7 4" backspace (0 offset). On the front I doubt the 235/60/14 would have fitted, not sure about 215/60/14. I always ran 245/50/14 on the front on 14x7. The best fitment on the front were the HJ-HZ 14x7 Polycast rim with a 0.34" offset (4.34" backspace), they just cleared the tie rods with HK-WB stubs and UC steering arms and didn't scrub anywhere except the lip on the firewall had to be flattened. It ran -0.5 camber. I later ran the 14x7 simmons copies which I think were initially a 4" backspace but they had heaps of meat in them (wheel nuts were like 2" long) so I got them machined and took about 1/4" off the back to make them I think 4.25" backspace. If I had left them 4" backspace (0 offset) they would have scrubbed on the spoiler and also on the firewall badly.

I'd run these on the front on 14x7:

Here is a front view of my hatchback with 14x7 and 245/50/14. I have never liked cars lowered much so it has 1" lower V8 springs in it but was a 6cyl and 5spd manual.

G'day yel327. My 14x7 5/108 Hotwires could be machined another 1/8" to 41/4" backspace but that's the limit for them.

A 3 piece rim definitely gives you more scope with better off-set & tyre size fitment options but I'm trying to work with the 14' Hotwires at this point.

I can mount ordinary type (195 or 205/60/14) tyres & be certain with the clearance but do I like the old school look which brought me to the question about the BF-TA's.

I'm getting my V5 Simmons 15x7 & 15x8 set restored at the moment with 205/50R15 & 225/50R15 Kumho V70A semi slicks.

I can also easily restore my 13x7 Torana Hotwires & mount 205/60R13 BF TA's no problem.

The 14" Hotwire wheels & limited tyre option is my headache at this point. Might have to put them back on the shelf lol

Those wheels on my car were a 1 piece like a hotwire just looked like a Simmons. Not 3 piece.
4.25” backspace and 246/50/14 should work, and you can turn the tyres around too not always have to put the white lettering on the inside line we had to years ago with T/A’s as they had white letters back then on 245/50/14.
A 215/60/14 is a tiny bit taller than a 245/50/14 but they are also narrower on the tread so would probably work too.
I’ll see if I have any HK-HG 14x7 Hotwires, but I don’t think I do, pretty sure they are all HQ.

That's great yel327..sounds like it'll work!  I've been stuck on these 14" wheels & tyres for too long.

I reckon I spent less time figuring out my custom GTS combination..15x91/4" & 15x12" rims with 285/40/15 & 345/35/15 tyres for the white hatch lol.

Thanks mate!

205/65/15 on 6” front and 225/65/15 on 7” rear.

I bought wheelvintiques SS396 rims but despite their assurances they are 14” centres on step down hoops so the fronts don’t clear the BA-FG rotors and calipers. So I have blasted and etched a pair of 15x6 original RallyeII rims to paint up in matched colours which will look close enough for now when fitted with Rare Spares HQ Rally wheel centre caps. I might later make some 15x7 RallyeII up for the tears as all the aftermarket ones are made with the wrong offset for some reason.
