The LC console sits to the side slightly to accommodate the M20 Opel Gearbox ,I think by the time the later M20 Aussie one was used in the LCGTR it would have been the LJ type Console .Someone with more knowledge about that could confirm.

Don't forget, by lj type, Paul means lj 4 speed excluding xu1. As the xu1 has the shift patern plate.

Also, I'm pretty sure that it was discussed in the Sally report, the holes in the Opel console are in a different position to the holes in the Aussie console, so if you take acurate measurements, Marty may be able to verify what sort originally came in your car, which would be great information to have. The best way to be sure, is by measurements only, takes away the assumption & gives the facts !

The "LJ" style console appeared in production around July 71 to allow for the intro of both the M20 Aussie 4-sp & the new 4-sp fitted to the 1600 OHC engine which was released around the same time.

The easiest way to tell the difference apart from the vinyl covering is that the hole is larger & the boot mount holes centres are further apart. The part catalogue specifies either 4 7/8 inch or 6-inch for the later one.

The XU1 console has the same part number & the shift pattern label is listed as a separate part.

Not likely. No modifications were required to the LC body to fit the Aussie M20 transmission.

Isn't the hole for the reverse switch wire in a different place? I think that this has been identified before.

well i think it is likely

not trying to cause a shit storm but as i have stated there are 2 cars that i know of

those 2 as far as the owners know they are original with the right dates on the gear box

trying to find information on these cars is near on impossible as there doesn't seem to be alot of info out there

so instead of making silly comments show me why it's not possible

hope for some info   bat
