If there is no pic my photo hosting site didn’t work. It’s the first pic I’ve posted in years after Photobucket changed.

Yep, that would be my guess too.
Is there another hole further down, either inside or outside the chassis rail, maybe even in the trans tunnel, for an evaporator drain tube?

It looks like it could be the Mark IV aircon installed at the dealers Ken.

I’ll take a look, I never imagined it had aircon at some stage. I thought the holes were normal but after seeing other cars it seems not.

The air-con fitted in the factory only

The bottom arrow in this pic is pointing to what I believe is the drain tube location for the factory fitted air. (Not the Mark IV)

Do you know if there were two different grommets fitted in the choke cable hole depending on whether or not one was fitted Mick? One with a hole and one without maybe?

Laurie, no idea if there are different or blank grommets, just know that my factory L32 M20 2/78 hatch had a choke and the cable went through that hole with what looked like a factory grommet..
I just had a look at the front cut i have laying about and it has the hole but no grommet fitted, it was a bare shell when I got it...
