Does anyone know what resistor (ohms and watts) can be used to replace the curly yellow resistance wire for the heater fan motor so I have low and high fan speed ?

Pretty sure the orange wire allows full voltage for high fan speed and the yellow resistance wire drops the voltage down for low fan motor speed but not sure what the equivalent resistor value would be. Anyone know ? Thanks!

About 1.5 - 2 ohms

I used ballast resistors on my old FJ40 Landcruiser

Great idea to use a ballast resistor which is about 1.6 ohms. Should do the trick nicely, thanks!

So do the early LH's that are fitted with the Betts motor have a resistor mounted somewhere else?

The yellow wire is nichrome. It’s resistive. So the yellow wire in that example may still be ample to reduce the speed for the type of motor/armature/windings etc.

I think the Betts motors are a proper 2 speed motor.

Long time ago and also Toyota but I seem to remember I had 2 in series?...……...Might be wrong? Cheap enough to buy though.

Installed a 1.6 ohm ballast resistor today and it worked a treat :spoton:

Hi All,

Is anyone aware where I could buy some of the resistor wire for my LX heater? It's perished and want to keep the original look.

Or, would anyone know whether replacing my existing LX heater motor with an LH Betts heater motor will simply plug into my existing LX wiring and provide 2 speed fan control off the LX switch?

Thanks all!!

I just had a quick google, and there is plenty of Nichrome resistor wire around, but none of it is insulated.
