Has anyone had any experience, positive or negative, with Rare Spares Rubber Steering Rack Mounts?

Hi arrimar.  I can't recall where I got mine but they are not entirely round, which the Rares once seem to be.  The top is flat so that they sit snug and don't foul on the top. Here's a pic.  Cheers Ron

I think mine might be Whiteline.  Cheers Ron

Yes the shape was one concern, durability the other.

So not having the flat section appears ok looking at this old rack I have.
I'll give the Rares ones a go.

If those bushes are anything like the Rack Boots I got off Rare Spares (Kelpro) for my LX, they'll be garbage.

I have i think Super Pro in my rack, no troubles.

FYI the Rack Boots from ToranaRPA are fantastic, exactly like the originals and perfect fit. If they do the bushes and you're after original style, I'd check to see if they have them.

I ordered the boots from mick earlier today. Half the price of Rares too.

I purchased some Rares steering rack mounts to replace these Nolathane ones I pulled out, and they are totally wrong.
Not only do they not have the flat side, they are not even close to the correct size. Inside or outside diameter.
I took them back and purchased Whiteline ones as above. Perfect.bf197bf7d11cea7b49dcb5bf186f2337.jpg

I ordered a set of those Rares mounting bushes too. I hope reusing the steel tube will sort out the inner diameter.

They won't be, that Red Bush requires use of the steel insert tube.

Parts arrived. I'm still hopeful that with compression they'll fit snug.

The stack height looks good.Attached File  Resized_20200603_151516.jpeg   188.54K   4 downloads

The original steel tube matches the inner diameter.

The nut goes on easy and with some compression I hope it'll fill out nicely.

I think the aftermarket ones use a narrower tube.

They don’t look right at all they should have a flat part and also a step in them to locate properly in the rack and a crush tube that you use with your existing bolts nuts and large washers. Whiteline part number W11166 is what they should look like

The original crush tube is reused.
Tube is wider than the aftermarket ones with a plastic insert that grips the bolt. Pretty smart.

The original rubbers I pulled out don't have a flat spot. Yes they are deformed from being squashed.
I know what aftermarket ones look like. Doesn't mean they were direct copies of the genuine part.

I'll bolt it all up and see what happens when they're under pressure.

If they're shite I'll let Rare Spares know.

When fitted and compressed the rares rubbers look just like the ones I pulled out. Now to see how long they last.
