Hi guys, any opinions on using the attached cam specs for a 186 running a blue crank, a stage 3 Yella Terra head and triple HS6 SU's.

It's going into an old "Ratrod-ish" creation that will only be street driven.

Any opinions from the gurus on this site much appreciated.

It's a pretty mild cam, I'm not  knocking it, but to give you some perspective, an LC XU-1 cam is about 218° @ .050" & the cam above is 214°.

With triples you maybe go just a tad bigger

I agree with Warren, that is a very mild cam. It looks very much like something that a daily driver would have had in the 80s, which is great if that is what you are after, but in a rat rod type setup I would use something a little more aggressive (but that is me).

With the induction and head you are using, a 240@50 cam on a 106 or 107lsa will work far better, but it will be a little crankier than the first cam you mentioned so that is personal choice as well.

Do you know the compression ratio, as this will help determine the cam.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Haven't done a dummy mock up yet to confirm the compression ratio but I do know that the block and head have both been skimmed more than once.

I've made the call to use 60 Thou over dished pistons and aiming at ratio of not much more than 9.5? (The petrol in NZ is nothing to write home about!).

What octane is available in NZ? With the right cam and combo, you can run a lot more compression than that on pump fuel, however as said it depends on what cam you end up using as well as what fuel is actually available.

Thanks for the interest, best pump gas in NZ is BP98.

That cams about as big as you'd go with a single down draught Weber and as small as you'd go with triple 1 3/4 SU's.

When the time comes for the final decision I'll dredge this thread and pick the gmh-torana brains trust one more time.

it also depends on what you want to use the car for.
