I need to fill some seams between panels around the taillights and other areas and was wondering what people are using. I know the old 3M drip check stuff, but IIRC it shrinks a fair bit as it dries. I've heard Sikaflex 227 is good, and I think Wurth do a good seam sealer but I dont have an account with them anymore so might be hard to get...

What is everyone using for a 'wipe on' seam sealer nowadays?

Sikaflex works a treat.

Local paint shop stocks Wurth products (Lonsdale Paints) and good stuff, but I’ve been using Selley’s butyl mastic.

Butyl Mastic is what I am using for spots like fuel tank to floor and steering column to firewall. For factory spot welded panel gaps like roof rail, drip check works well. Sikaflex is good for places like cowl top where it joins the firewall.

I've used the sikaflex where I'm not intending to have to pull things apart at a later date (ie. set and forget) but used butyl mastic on things that may need to be dis-assambled at a future date and re-fitted, like the steering column surround to firewall.  Also used the butyl on the WB ute tub covers for rear lights etc that need to be waterproofed but will need to come out from time to time for maintenance.  Cheers Ron

This is what I need it for, seams on spot welded panels. I think I'll try the sikaflex, specs say it can be sanded and painted so it should do the job.
